Jeffrey Lurie’s Net Worth: How the Philadelphia Eagles Owner Made His Fortune

The Philadelphia Eagles have been under Jeffrey Lurie’s ownership since May 1994. How much is Lurie worth, and how does his fortune compare to other NFL owners?

Lurie has always had an affection for all Boston sports teams, which led him to attempt to buy the New England Patriots. Fortunately for both sides, this didn’t work out — Lurie took out a loan and bought the Eagles for $185 million in 1994.

What Is Jeffrey Lurie’s Net Worth, and How Did He Earn It?

It’s estimated that Lurie’s net worth is $5.3 billion. The Eagles have been used to success over the last couple of decades, while Lurie has cemented himself as one of the league’s finest owners.

The Eagles have won 10 NFC East titles, advanced to eight NFC Championship Games, and even won their first Super Bowl title, all with Lurie steering ship. The man clearly has a clue of how to run an organization, a sports team nonetheless.

Lurie got his bachelor’s degree from Clark University, his master’s from Boston U, and his doctorate from Brandeis University. The man is well-educated and well-rounded, to say the least.

Lurie made the majority of his money from the General Cinema chain of movie theaters, which his great-grandfather founded in 1935. This drive-in chain of movie theaters was one of the largest in the nation.

He then began to establish himself in Hollywood in 1985 when he established Chestnut Hill Productions. As an executive producer, Lurie went on to receive three Academy Awards and also produced multiple films, TV shows, and documentaries. Chestnut Hill was the country’s fourth-largest chain of movie theaters.

Lurie has consistently been a philanthropic man as he and the Eagles’ successes have continued to come. Heading into his 31st year with the team, one of Lurie’s proudest charitable organizations he began was the Eagles Autism Foundation: “On the field, we’re united by one objective; victory. Off the field, we’re drawn together by an even larger goal: Taking action for autism.”

If Lurie continues on this path serving the people by putting out winning football teams and giving back, he’ll be a true embodiment of the City of Brotherly Love.

With a net worth of $5.3 billion, Lurie ranks 20th on the list of owners with the highest net worths.

The Eagles have consistently been a powerhouse for almost a decade now, and clear stability up top definitely helps allow that to happen.
