Is Jayden Reed Playing vs. the Commanders? Latest on the Packers WR’s Injury, Week 2 Status

Jayden Reed scored a touchdown in Green Bay's win over Detroit on Sunday, but will the Packers' star suit up against the Commanders on TNF?

The Green Bay Packers got their season off to the perfect start in Week 1, dominating a Detroit Lions team still finding its rhythm without former coordinators Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn. The Packers won the divisional matchup 27-13, and now face the Washington Commanders at Lambeau Field in Thursday Night Football.

The Commanders also won their opening game of the season, dismantling the New York Giants 21-6. Green Bay will need as many playmakers as possible to be healthy for the game, but question marks have surrounded the fitness of star receiver Jayden Reed. Will he be ready for the game, or will others have to step up in his place?

Will Packers Receiver Jayden Reed be Ready for Thursday Night Football vs. the Commanders?

Jayden Reed already had injury concerns heading into the season, with the receiver dealing with a Jones fracture in his left foot. Fixing the problem would likely require surgery, but Reed played through the injury in Week 1. He didn’t appear too affected by the injury, either, catching three of his five targets for 45 yards and a touchdown.

A repeat performance would go a long way to helping the Packers move to 2-0, but will Reed suit up at all on a short week? Judging by the team’s official injury report, it would be a surprise if the third-year receiver missed the game entirely.

Reed didn’t practice on Monday, which would likely have been planned in advance, even before the team’s victory over Detroit. The player and his team have clearly decided against surgery for now and will instead manage the injury carefully for the foreseeable future.

Reed did, however, log a limited practice on Tuesday, suggesting he should be good to go for Thursday night. Whether he is limited in any way remains to be seen, but his availability will be a massive boost for the Packers’ offense.

Notable Injuries Ahead of Thursday Night Football

The Packers may be without Bo Melton against Washington, who missed practice on Monday and Tuesday. Melton, now listed as a cornerback on Green Bay’s official website, left the game against Detroit in the second half with a shoulder injury.

Offensive linemen Zach Tom and Aaron Banks will be game-time decisions, having both sustained injuries against the Lions. Tom suffered a hip injury, while Banks left with an ankle issue, and is also listed as having a groin injury. Both were listed as “did not practice” on Monday and Tuesday, but HC Matt LaFleur claims they haven’t missed much.

“I’m not as concerned about them, we’re not really — yeah, we’re walking through (during practice), but there’s no live reps this week. We’ll just see where we’re at.”

Meanwhile, the Commanders haven’t released an official injury report for Tuesday, but punter Tress Way is believed to be the biggest concern.

Way is believed to be dealing with a back issue and didn’t practice on Monday. The injury occurred when Giants rookie Abdul Carter tipped one of Way’s Punts in Week 1, with the punter landing heavily on his back.
