The Washington Commanders and wide receiver Terry McLaurin have been butting heads over his desire for a contract extension.
However, Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels is cutting through the noise and has a straightforward take on what will happen.
What Does Jayden Daniels Think Will Happen With Terry McLaurin?
Daniels is so confident that McLaurin will soon rejoin the Commanders that he says, “He’ll be coming through the door soon.”

McLaurin and the Commanders’ front office have been in a contract standoff for most of the offseason and preseason. McLaurin had a breakout season in 2024 and wants his contract restructured to reflect his standing among the game’s top wide receivers.
However, no deal has yet been reached, so until then, anything is possible, including a trade.
Who Would Be Interested in Making a Trade for Terry McLaurin?
PFSN’s Terry Biggs wrote that the New England Patriots GM, Eliot Wolf, would be interested in making the right deal if it would help his team.
“Sure. Just doing what’s best for the team. If there’s a player out there that we feel that can help us. If it costs that, then we would consider it.”
That’s how Wolf put it when asked about giving up a first- or second-round pick to bring in more help. The desire to upgrade is real, especially with Andrew Callahan from the Boston Herald floating the idea of landing McLaurin.

Callahan put it simply: “Eliot Wolf: The #Patriots ‘absolutely’ are open to a big trade in the coming days and weeks. Trey Hendrickson and Terry McLaurin among players currently in contract disputes with their respective teams.” That statement fuels the idea that Wolf is ready to wheel and deal.

Would the Commanders Trade McLaurin?
The trade talk could be music to the Washington front office’s ears. It’s not that McLaurin would be considered overpaid; he’s entering his age-30 season, and wide receivers have historically dropped off in their 30s.
The Commanders have thus been resistant to giving McLaurin a beefed-up long-term deal that could potentially put them in cap trouble if McLaurin’s production drops off.
If Daniels is right, the Commanders will have decided to keep McLaurin, win, lose, or draw, probably because of his connection with the star quarterback in 2024.
They hit it off from the start of the season, with McLaurin becoming Daniels’ favorite target almost anywhere on the field, especially in the red zone.
Either way, the clock is running. There’s only one more week of preseason games, and the Commanders have to decide now whether to cut bait or fish with McLaurin.
