Panthers Provide Update on Jaycee Horn After Minor Car Accident

Horn was reportedly on his way to training camp this morning when he was involved in a minor car accident. According to the organization, the Panthers’ cornerback was alone in his vehicle, and emergency personnel were not called.

Horn reportedly did not sustain any significant injuries. While he will not take part in the Panthers’ joint practice with the Cleveland Browns today, he is present at the practice and watching from the sideline.

While the incident was certainly concerning, the good news is that Horn is okay and avoided serious injury. As a key piece of the Panthers’ defense, his health is crucial to the team’s hopes for success in 2025.

Horn, the former No. 8 overall pick, earned Pro Bowl honors in 2024 after a standout season that included 68 tackles, five tackles for loss, 13 pass deflections, one interception, and two sacks.

In March, the Panthers rewarded his strong play with a four-year, $100 million extension to keep him in Carolina through the 2029 season. The deal made him the third-highest-paid cornerback in the league, in terms of salary, and included $70 million in guaranteed money.

How long the accident will keep Horn out of training camp is still unclear. However, as one of Carolina’s top defensive players, he likely would not have played in the team’s first preseason game against the Browns on August 8.

Even though he did not suffer any injuries, car accidents can still be unsettling. It’s possible that Horn was simply shaken up, which is why he and the team chose to keep him out of practice today.

Horn is entering his fifth NFL season this fall and will be a key piece in Carolina’s effort to turn the franchise around. The Panthers have not made the playoffs since 2017.

The Panthers open their season on September 7 in a matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Based on reports following the crash, Horn should be ready to play when the season kicks off.
