‘This Is So Unnecessary’ — NFL World Reacts To Jaxson Dart’s Statement After Drawing Backlash Over Supporting Donald Trump

The NFL world reacted to Jaxson Dart's statement after his Donald Trump rally appearance drew backlash from Abdul Carter and media.

New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart introduced President Donald Trump at a campaign-style rally in New York on May 22, and the appearance sparked immediate backlash, most notably from teammate and fellow 2025 first-round pick Abdul Carter.

Carter’s since-deleted post turned what might have been a one-day story into a full week of national debate. Behind the scenes, the Giants held a team meeting where Dart addressed the locker room directly, and things have cooled down since then. Today, the Giants quarterback issued a full statement about his public support of Trump.

Jaxson Dart Addresses the Media Over Donald Trump

Dart faced reporters during the Giants’ open OTA session and acknowledged the situation without going into extensive detail, telling reporters about the “unique opportunity” he was presented and how the President of the country is a position he has “well respected regardless of political affiliation, regardless of political party.”

“I also understand in this world, politics can be a sensitive matter, a sensitive topic,” Dart said. “I also understand that I’m the quarterback of the New York Giants and that involves a lot of responsibility, it’s under a limelight, under a microscope, and there’s a lot that comes with that, and it’s something that I’ve embraced.”

“Most importantly, I can honestly say that I love every single one of my brothers, my teammates on this team, regardless of politics, regardless of religious beliefs, regardless of anything that may be different between us,” Dart added. “They know exactly what kind of person I am that comes into the facility every single day.”

Much of the NFL world on social media believes the entire situation had been dragged out far longer than necessary.

“This is so unnecessary,” one user wrote on X. “The team talked about it already, just move on.”

“Some perspective here. Time to introduce the President: 30 seconds. Time to give a statement to the media explaining why he introduced the President: 4+ minutes. Praying this is the last of this insanity,” Giants Blue Blooded wrote on X to explain how bizarre the whole thing has turned out to be.

“Why does he have to explain anything? Everyone has the freedom to support whoever they want politically,” A user named Caleb Williams Fan Club said on X.

The discourse around Dart’s rally appearance also raised a broader question about how NFL quarterbacks navigate public life off the field. Players like Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen have largely avoided taking public political stances, and there’s a reason for that.

Quarterbacks represent not just themselves but a full fan base, a city, and an organization. Dart is 23 years old, entering his second NFL season, and now carries the weight of being the face of a franchise in the country’s biggest media market. As a result, in some cases, he might have to act or say things mandated by PR.

Given the roster John Harbaugh is building, with Malik Nabers and Cam Skattebo returning from injuries, and a defense anchored by Carter, Brian Burns, and Arvell Reese, the Giants have legitimate reasons for optimism heading into 2026.

However, none of that matters if the quarterback play doesn’t take a significant step forward. Dart appeared in 14 games in 2025, finishing with 15 passing touchdowns, five interceptions, and nine rushing touchdowns while battling a concussion and various knocks due to his aggressive playstyle.

What Dart needs now is a clean offseason, a strong training camp, and the kind of on-field progress that makes everything else fade into the background. The rally will be forgotten by September, as all eyes will be on whether Dart can solidify himself as the Giants’ franchise quarterback.
