‘I Told Her To Call the Police’ — Rams Star Jared Verse Hilariously Describes Insane Workout With NFL Legend Aaron Donald

Jared Verse shared how his workout challenge with Aaron Donald left him completely exhausted and humbled by the retired Rams legend's intense training regimen.

When you talk trash in the NFL, you better be ready to back it up. Los Angeles Rams linebacker Jared Verse learned this lesson the hard way when he decided to challenge one of the greatest defensive players in league history. What happened next became a masterclass in humility, served up by a legend who proved retirement doesn’t mean going soft.

Why Did Jared Verse Challenge Aaron Donald to a Workout?

Verse had the temerity to think he could beat Donald in a workout. The rookie’s confidence quickly caught Donald’s attention, and the Hall of Fame defensive tackle wasn’t about to let the challenge slide.

“Somebody put the word out,” Donald said. “I’m looking for you, Verse. I’m looking for you. Come to the house. I just want to talk. I just want to talk, that’s it.

“Nothing much, big dog. That’s it. Just a little conversation. Put in a little weights. Do a little cardio. You know, the old-man retirement workout. Let’s put you through it. See what you can do. I just want to talk. Come on, I just want to talk.”

The results went sideways for Verse almost immediately. The young pass rusher got a reality check in real time when he showed up and Donald showed him how a legend, even in retirement, can make someone ten years his junior look foolish for challenging him.

Verse showed up to work out with Donald around 11 a.m., and by the time they were done, Verse said, “His wife (Erica) came in laughing at me. I told her to call the police.”

The workout clearly pushed Verse beyond his limits, leaving him so exhausted that even Donald’s wife found the situation amusing. It was a humbling experience that would serve as a valuable lesson for the confident rookie.

How Does This Fit Into Verse’s Promising Rookie Season?

To his credit, Verse had an epic rookie season that justified some of his confidence. After being taken 19th overall in 2024, he rang up 66 combined tackles and 4.5 sacks and was named the AP Defensive Rookie of the Year. His performance showed he belongs in the NFL, even if he’s not quite ready to challenge retired legends in the gym.

The Rams are counting on Verse, and his motormouth, to deliver in 2025-26. After spending some time saying, “F-Them Picks,” and winning the Super Bowl after the 2021-22 season, they have shifted to a youth movement on both sides of the ball.

Donald is not walking through that door, no matter how often someone challenges him. He’s got his ring, is a three-time Defensive Player of the Year, and he’s happy to remind everyone of that while he walked away on his terms.

Out with former load-bearing wall Cooper Kupp and in with Puka Nacua. Out with the retired Donald and in with Verse and his former FSU teammate, DT Braden Fiske. The transition represents a new era for the franchise, built around young talent and championship aspirations.

Head coach Sean McVay is entering his ninth year and has led the team to six playoff berths, two Super Bowl appearances, and one Super Bowl title. Quarterback Matthew Stafford is entering his 17th year and needs to be managed as such.

One doesn’t just say they are the best; they have to prove it, and Verse’s comedic humility shows he knows he has a ways to go before he gets there. The experience with Donald will likely fuel his motivation as he prepares for his second NFL season, armed with both talent and a healthy dose of perspective.
