Jameis Winston is starting a new chapter with the New York Giants after a single season with the Cleveland Browns in 2024. While Winston didn’t leave much of an impact on the Browns’ success, Cleveland has certainly left a mark on him.
The veteran quarterback penned a heartfelt message for Browns fans after signing a two-year, $8 million deal with the Giants. He also took a subtle shot at his new New York teammate and quarterback, Russell Wilson.

Jameis Winston’s Farewell Message for Browns
Winston arrived in Cleveland on a one-year deal last year and served as Deshaun Watson’s backup for the first half of the season. He took over the starting job in Week 8 after Watson’s injury, throwing for 334 yards and three touchdowns to lead Cleveland to a 29–24 win over the formidable Baltimore Ravens.
Winston started six more games for the Browns but only managed one additional win, which came in another big upset in snowy conditions. And who was that win against? The Pittsburgh Steelers, with Wilson under center. In his farewell message, Winston subtly noted that he would never forget that victory over his now QB competition.
“One moment I’ll never forget — beating the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday Night Football in what turned out to be the most iconic snow game in NFL history. The energy, the emotion, the unity — we all felt it. That night was Cleveland at its finest,” he wrote.
The 31-year-old was full of gratitude to the Browns fans for welcoming him and his family with open arms.
“I’m so happy and grateful for everything we experienced together this past year. From day one, you welcomed my family and me with open arms — and for that, I’m forever thankful.
“To the Dawg Pound: you were electric. Snow or shine, highs or lows, your energy never wavered. You reminded us all what loyalty, passion, and community really look like. This year was one of growth, service, and adaptability — not just for me personally, but for my family as well. And Cleveland, you played a major role in that. The spirit of this city, the heart of its people, and the bond we’ve built will always be with us.”

Winston further added that the city had left a lasting impact on his and his family’s lives, and he wished nothing but the best for them.
“To the amazing men and women who make this city special: thank you. You’ve made a lasting impact on our lives, helping us rise to a greater calling — one rooted in unity, service, and love. Wishing you continued blessings, prosperity, and nothing but the best.”
Winston was benched in Week 18 by the Browns, ending the season with 2,121 passing yards on a 61.1% completion rate, with 13 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He finished 29th in PFSN’s QB+ metric and is set to be the backup behind Wilson, who graded out the 17th-best QB in the league last season.
