The New York Giants recently signed veteran quarterback Jameis Winston. He’ll likely serve as the backup to new starter Russell Wilson, who inked a one-year contract worth $10.5 million earlier this offseason.
Winston has been brushing up on his throwing skills, only not how you would think. After coming off a season where he missed the later part of the regular season due to a right shoulder injury, the former Florida State star has been winning hearts with his throwing skills with a crab and not for his work on the football field.

Jameis Winston Scores a Touchdown With a Crab Leg
In a recent public appearance for Fulton Fish, Winston entertained his fans by throwing a crab leg up in the air, which translated into a perfect touchdown catch for a receiver who caught the pass seamlessly.

It is safe to say the fans are loving Winston’s passing skills — and his humor.
The Giants’ quarterback has a long history with crab legs, stemming from a 2014 incident at a grocery store in Florida where he was accused of stealing $32 worth of the tasty crustaceans. He was issued a civil citation for shoplifting, according to an ESPN report.
“So @Jaboowins is the modern day, most interesting man in the world, cant wait for his senate run its going to be special,” a fan said.

Another fan suggested, “They gotta put him on tv after he retires from the NFL. It dont even gotta be sports related, just put him on tv.”

“He has a good sense of humor about it,” said another fan.
Another fan took it as a chance to praise him: “That’s my qb right there,” the fan tweeted.

The throw had the people present cheering for Winston and his epic shot. This should not come as a surprise, given Winston’s excellent arm talent and strength. Winston’s accuracy has been a point of contention throughout his NFL career. This inconsistency could be a major hold-up in Winston getting a starting role with New York.
The Giants Could Still Draft a Quarterback in the NFL Draft
Signing Winston doesn’t guarantee him dominance in the Giants’ quarterback room. Sure, his veteran experience solves an urgent need for experience behind Wilson, but the 31-year-old is nothing more than a stop-gap. New York will surely be looking long and hard at quarterback prospects who could become their future franchise starter.
Winston boasts an impressive 24,225 passing yards, 154 touchdowns, and 111 interceptions over 105 games (including 87 starts) in his professional career. He had 2,121 passing yards and 13 touchdowns against 12 interceptions in seven starts last season for the Cleveland Browns. He raked in these numbers despite sitting out the last few games due to injury.
It most likely won’t be at No. 3. As opposed to what was initially believed, the Giants will mostly shift focus to another positional player in Round One now that they have signed Winston. PFSN’s three-round 2025 NFL Mock Draft sees the Giants going for two-way star Travis Hunter.
What Winston’s presence does is it steadies the Giants ship at the quarterback position, especially amid the growing rumors of Aaron Rodgers and Pittsburgh Steelers after A-Rod’s visit.
While he may not be the franchise’s answer to their long-term quarterback, he would suffice in the near future and also give the veteran mentorship to whoever they pick from the 2025 NFL draft.
