Jalon Walker’s NFL Draft Scouting Report

Jalon Walker’s projection to the NFL is extremely unique. He has the build and athletic tools of an inside linebacker but found success at Georgia by being deployed primarily as a blitzing pass rusher and attacking SAM-backer.

A prospect as athletic as Walker will likely find a successful role in the NFL, but there are debates surrounding what the best role for him is. Walker doesn’t have high-end gap instincts or coverage ability, nor does he have the size to consistently set the edge and encumber duo blocks.

That said, he’s an explosive QB spy and pursuit threat, a capable pull slabber, and a wide-alignment menace with a sound speed-to-power profile. In the right defensive system with a creative, forward-thinking defensive coordinator, Walker can flourish.

Jalon Walker’s Latest NFL Draft Projection

PFSN’s Ian Cummings projected Walker to be drafted 8th in his most recent 7-round 2025 NFL Mock Draft.

Cummings said, “Jalon Walker’s 2025 NFL Draft projection has been a polarizing topic in the lead-up to the big event. At 6’1″ and 243 pounds, with 32” arms, he’s undersized for a full-time EDGE role, but in Ejiro Evero’s defense, he’d be able to pin his ears back and attack from space.

“Walker is an outlier. But he also has every tool he needs to succeed as a pass-rushing dynamo, a QB spy, and a pre-snap disguiser. He’s explosive, bendy, and relentless, with high-end speed-to-power, and he just might be the X-factor for the Carolina Panthers.”

Where Does Jalon Walker Rank Among 2025’s LB Prospects?

Here are the top 10 LB rankings for the 2025 NFL Draft, according to PFSN Draft Analyst Ian Cummings:

1. Jihaad Campbell, Alabama
2. Jalon Walker, Georgia

3. Carson Schwesinger, UCLA
4. Demetrius Knight Jr., South Carolina
5. Danny Stutsman, Oklahoma
6. Smael Mondon Jr., Georgia
7. Jeffrey Bassa, Oregon
8. Cody Simon, Ohio State
9. Jack Kiser, Notre Dame
10. Chris Paul Jr., Ole Miss

Jalon Walker has played off-ball linebacker and off the edge, and many evaluators view him as an enthralling hybrid of the two positions. In 2024, he racked up 60 tackles, 11 TFLs, six sacks, and two pass breakups, showing off his disruptive imprint as scouts followed closely.

The perplexing part of Walker’s evaluation is that he isn’t a perfect fit for off-ball LB or EDGE. At 6’1″, 243 pounds, with 32″ arms, he’s too small to be a full-time EDGE on early downs, and he lacks elite gap instincts and coverage ability in an off-ball slot.

Walker can shine in an attacking SAM-backer role that highlights his strengths as a block warrior and pass-rush powerhouse. His speed-to-power is deadly, along with his burst and bend, and his closing speed and urgency in the box can overwhelm offenses.
