Since their Super Bowl LVI victory, the Los Angeles Rams have been among the most consistent playoff teams in the league. However, they haven’t been able to take that next step forward, tinkering with the squad in hopes of figuring out the recipe once again.
But for head coach Sean McVay, a potential blast from the past might be the way to finally get over the hump once again. After two seasons away from the team, McVay is open to the idea of bringing back standout cornerback Jalen Ramsey to the squad.
Sean McVay Potentially Bringing Back Jalen Ramsey
After four seasons in Los Angeles, the Rams traded Ramsey in exchange for Hunter Long and a third-round pick. Since then, he’s been with the Miami Dolphins as they try to shore up their defense. But he has been on the trade market for a while.
And McVay might be looking to swoop back in. Speaking to the Rams Wire, he made it clear. “There’s not too much of an update. He is a total stud, and you look at, obviously, he has continued to play at a really high level.”
The Super Bowl-winning offensive genius also added, “He and I have kept in great touch even since we ended up trading him to Miami. Special competitor, great person, great father.” However, he was still hesitant to fully commit for one key reason.
“There are a lot of layers when you’re talking about a player of his caliber with regards to the contract, the compensation that they would be looking for in exchange for receiving a player of his magnitude. And so those conversations are ongoing, as I’m sure they are with multiple teams.”
However, in an effort to be diplomatic, he did add that the team was on the lookout for any and all upgrades to the roster.
“We’re never going to shy away from opportunities to increase the competitiveness of our roster or add great players as long as it fits within the framework of everything that an acquisition like that would entail.”
A seven-time Pro Bowl and three-time All-Pro selection, Ramsey has been a modicum of consistency ever since his rookie year in the league. Over that timeframe, he’s racked up 24 interceptions and six different seasons of 50+ total tackles.
On a young Rams defense that was fluctuating week to week, his veteran presence could be a stabilizing force and raise their floor, while keeping the ceiling at its current high. Additionally, with most of the defense on the younger side, he could also act as a veteran locker room leader.
