The Philadelphia Eagles have been hit by some turmoil this offseason. Last season ended in disappointment with the Eagles losing a home playoff game to the San Francisco 49ers. Many of the Eagles’ issues at the end of the season stemmed from their offense.
They were one of the least productive offenses in football, and while most of the blame was placed on offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo, quarterback Jalen Hurts deserved his fair share of blame as well.
Quarterback Jalen Hurts Has “NBA-Ish” Tendencies
Hurts made his bones in the NFL as a dual-threat quarterback. He was not using his legs much last season, as we have seen in previous years. That may point to a tendency in Hurts’ personality that could ultimately hurt the Eagles.
Hurts has become a major topic of conversation lately after ESPN reporter Jeremy Fowler suggested that frustration is mounting in Philadelphia toward Hurts. Many of the concerns center on the offense and how Hurts is running it.
According to Fowler via PFSN, “Mainly, sources point to an issue with coachability, that even in 2024 when they won the Super Bowl, coaches trying to implement new schemes, motions, and shifts, maybe more things under center, Hurts has pushed back to those at times.”
Hurts has “coachability” issues that have become significant as the Eagles’ offense has grown stale, and now they bring in new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion. If Hurts is unwilling to adapt this offseason, especially to what Mannion plans to run, the team may need to have some tough conversations.
Former Eagles scout John Middlekauff discussed the issues in Philadelphia, saying, “He’s not a dual-threat quarterback anymore. He’s just a passer, and we’ve seen him as a pocket-passer; it’s not great. And that’s the thing about Jalen, it became a little NBA-ish. Yeah, I don’t need to really listen to anybody; I’ll do what I want to do. I think I know what my strengths and weaknesses are, which he clearly doesn’t.”

Another issue that arose last season was the relationship between Hurts and wide receiver A.J. Brown. There were many reports that Brown and Hurts had a broken relationship, which is a major reason Brown wants out of Philadelphia.

Even though Brown has not been traded yet, he will likely be moved before the season, with the NFL Draft a potential trade deadline.
The Eagles will be one of the most interesting teams to follow next season. Their offense, led by Hurts, will be what everyone is watching as they try to make a major improvement after a disastrous end to the 2025 campaign.
