Jalen Coker Injury Update: What’s the Latest on the Panthers WR’s Status, and When Will He Return?

Carolina Panthers WR Jalen Coker remains on the IR as the team is hopeful that the second-year wideout will return according to plan.

The Carolina Panthers’ wide receiver room looks totally different from a few weeks ago. QB Bryce Young has managed to throw for 482 yards and four touchdowns despite the team’s slow 0-2 start.

Carolina will have plenty of chances to win down the stretch, though they know the importance of WR Jalen Coker. Their 2025 No. 8 overall pick has impressed, but Coker’s presence is clearly missed.

Is Jalen Coker Still on Track to Return Between Weeks 5 and 7?

When Coker was first placed on the IR, HC Dave Canales said he would likely miss four to six games. Canales went on the record saying Coker had a “serious quad strain.” The second-year wideout averaged 14.9 yards per reception last season as he finished with 478 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Upon being placed on the IR, Carolina opted to bring back WR Hunter Renfrow. The 29-year-old is tied for second on the team with 15 targets, but he’s tied for first on the team with two touchdowns. Shockingly, the other two go to RB Chuba Hubbard. Through the first two weeks, Renfrow is the lone Panthers receiver to record a touchdown.

Coker’s biggest game last season saw him finish with 110 yards on four receptions with a touchdown. It marked the first, and, so far, his only 100+ yard game. That said, he had 30+ yards in all but three of the 11 games he appeared in.

Looking at the Panthers’ schedule, the team would love to have him back for Week 5 in Miami. The Dolphins haven’t looked great this year, and it would be a fantastic opportunity to ease him back into action. They remain home for Week 6 against the Dallas Cowboys before heading to New York to play the Jets in Week 7.

No matter what, the team is going to make sure Coker is 100% before he returns. Carolina has done everything in their power to surround Young with the best talent possible. That said, they traded veteran Adam Thielen back to Minnesota. The entire situation had poor timing as Coker went on the IR three days after the trade. If the team could go back in time, it begs the question as to whether they would’ve traded Thielen or not.

Regardless, Young knows he needs to step up. McMillan has been fantastic, delivering on all the hype this offseason. The team’s biggest disappointment has been Xavier Legette. Somehow, Legette has eight yards on 15 targets. At 24 years old, the team’s 2024 1st round pick has just four receptions for eight yards. Coker’s impending return could make things easier for Legette, though that remains to be seen.
