With the receiving group already ravaged by injuries, the San Francisco 49ers received another blow in the form of tight end Jake Tonges.

The injuries continue to pile on for the San Francisco 49ers. Entering the season with the hope of turning their year around from how last season went, the results have been pouring in for the franchise, who stand at 3-0.

However, the number of players who continue to go down week after week is reaching a shocking number. Unfortunately, the list only continues to grow, with tight end Jake Tonges adding his name in Week 4 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

What Happened to Jake Tonges?

With George Kittle placed on the injured reserve list, an extremely depleted receiving group for San Francisco was going to be relying heavily on their backups. Among them, a lot of hopes were pinned on Tonges to potentially take a step up.

However, barely into the first quarter, the list of 49ers who are dealing with an injury saw another addition. Beat writer Jennifer Lee Chan was quick to report on X, “#49ers TE Jake Tonges is headed to the locker room.”

The true gravity of the situation, though, became clear when Noah Furtado added, “Jake Tonges (shoulder) is questionable to return.” After initially guessing that the shoulder was an upper-body ailment, the fan base got some clarity on Tonges’ issue.

Fortunately for the 49ers, Tonges was able to return to the game as the 49ers trailed 7-3 against the Jaguars.
