In Week 12, the Los Angeles Rams fell victim to the Packers, who seem to be one of the best put-together teams in the NFL right now. But for LA, their roster moves, superstar power, and all-in mentality need to begin bearing fruit against big opponents. As for the Jacksonville Jaguars, they’ve got a long, long way to go. Here are the NFL odds and a pick and prediction for the Jaguars vs. Rams Week 13 bout.
Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Los Angeles Rams pick, prediction | Week 13
- Spread: Rams -12.5 (Odds provided by DraftKings Sportsbook)
- Moneyline: Rams -675, Jaguars +475
- Over/Under: 48
The Rams come into their Week 13 matchup against the Jags off the back of a three-game losing streak. After a 7-1 start, Los Angeles is trending in the wrong direction as we head down the final stretch of the regular season.
Superstar additions are all well and good, but you have to get wins against the teams you’re going to face in the playoffs. You can’t be outmatched, outcoached, and outplayed by those clubs.
While the score was relatively close, the Packers were a clear victor in Sunday’s game. Even with Pro Bowl players across their defense, the Rams still had no answer for Aaron Rodgers and his cavalry. As 12.5-point favorites, Los Angeles will be looking to bounce back in a major way in Week 13 against the Jaguars.
The Jaguars are focused on the future
The Jaguars hold the second-worst record in the NFL at 2-9, and they’re a long way from being a .500 team again. But we knew that coming into the season, and right now, it’s about competing, getting better as a unit, allowing the young guys to gather experience and define themselves, and rebuilding a roster.
Jacksonville lost to Atlanta in Week 12, despite positive outings for Trevor Lawrence, running back James Robinson, and a couple of their receivers. The defense needs some more firepower and the offensive line needs work, while adding a couple of key weapons for T-Law remains essential.
Jaguars vs. Rams betting trends
The Rams have failed to cover the spread in their last five games — they were the favorites in each contest. In fact, they’ve been the favorite in all but one game this season (against the Buccaneers in Week 2), and Week 13 is no different.
The Rams’ biggest margins came in the form of -17 spreads against the Lions and the Texans in back-to-back weeks. While they might have won both of those games, they did so by an average of 13.5 points. Now facing Jacksonville, that number makes the 12.5 spread in Week 13 quite interesting. On the season, the Rams are 4-7 against the spread and 6-4-1 in over/unders.
The Jags are also 4-7 against the spread, but a measly 2-9 in the over/under column. They haven’t covered an over since Week 5, which is actually quite impressive considering they’re allowing fewer points per game than seven other franchises, including the Chargers, Raiders, and Washington.
The over/under hasn’t even been particularly high, with Jacksonville cashing unders of 48, 46, and 45 multiple times. The over/under of 48.5 against the Rams is the third-highest number the Jags have had all season. They are 1-1 in the other two, hitting the over (49) against the Titans and the under (51.5) against the Cardinals.
Jaguars vs. Rams prediction
This feels like a trap game for a struggling Rams team. They should go into this contest with confidence and knock off the Jaguars, right? Something tells me they will play with their food and ultimately risk the game a little too much.
The Rams still win, but I wouldn’t be so sure about them covering the over. Matthew Stafford is throwing interceptions and giving up touchdowns or short field situations as a result. He’ll have to cut those out to cover the 12.5 spread.
Jaguars vs. Rams Prediction: Rams 28, Jaguars 20
