Panthers and Jaguars In a Weather Delay

Jaguars fans were busy celebrating their first touchdown of the season.TE Hunter Long scored his first career touchdown right before the game was suspended due to lightning.

It is unknown when the game will resume, so fans have to sit tight while the storm passes. The game was suspended due to lightning within a 10-mile radius of the stadium. Lightning is the only weather-related reason for a game to be suspended, as other factors like cold, snow, and ice aren’t acceptable conditions for suspension.

The game cannot resume until 30 minutes after the latest strike of lightning in the area. With the delay, the game will surely trickle into the next slate of games, likely adding some late-game drama into the early parts of the later games.

There is 8:32 left in the second quarter with the Jaguars leading 10-7. It’s been a tightly contested battle so far, and both teams are looking to prove themselves out of the gate. The quarterbacks have looked much different with Young struggling mightily and Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence throwing the ball well so far.

Young has completed three out of his six passes for only 16 yards. One of his incompletions was an interception to LB Foyesade Oluokun. This set up Lawrence and the Jaguars in plus territory, allowing the Jaguars to capitalize on Young’s mistake.

Lawrence is 10 for 14 with 84 yards and a touchdown. They made sure to take advantage of the interception by cashing in with Long’s six-yard touchdown catch. The Jaguars’ offense has looked much better than it did at times last season with a new staff in command.

Hunter has looked effective on the offensive side of the ball for Jacksonville. Meanwhile, last season’s top target, Brian Thomas Jr., has been held in check to only two targets and no catches.

While fans eagerly await the resumption of the game, the players will be doing everything in their power to stay warmed up and loose to hit the ground running when they return. Young will be itching to get back out there to atone for his interception and get the Panthers their first touchdown of the season. Until then, it’s a waiting game.

#Update: The game between the Panthers and the Jaguars will resume at 3:10 p.m. ET, Sunday..
