Yet again, the Jacksonville Jaguars (4-1) and the Cleveland Browns (1-4) have completed a major trade.

Trade Details: Jaguars Send Tyson Campbell to Browns for CB Greg Newsome
The Jaguars are reportedly sending cornerback Tyson Campbell and the Eagles’ 2026 seventh-round draft pick to Cleveland. In exchange, Jacksonville will receive cornerback Greg Newsome II and the Jets’ 2026 sixth-round pick.
This sudden move comes as each of the defensive backs was potentially expected to guide their respective teams’ secondaries for years to come.

The Browns made this move just one day after dealing quarterback Joe Flacco to the Cincinnati Bengals, with the latest trade also coming just days before the Pittsburgh Steelers host Cleveland in Week 6.
Newsome was the Browns’ first-round selection in 2021 and had started all five games for the team so far this season. He had tallied 23 tackles and three pass breakups. The Northwestern alum was playing on the fifth-year option of his rookie deal and was slated to become a free agent in the offseason.
He’s become a solid running mate alongside Denzel Ward for the last few seasons, and the athletic and explosive cover man could and should be a solid fit in the Jaguars’ zone-based scheme.
Campbell was a second-round pick in the same draft year as Newsome. The 6’1″, 195-pound former Jaguar had tallied 297 total tackles and six interceptions for Jacksonville throughout his five years with the franchise. The Jaguars signed Campbell to a four-year, $76.5 million extension that included $53.4 million guaranteed in July 2024.
Campbell had been playing like the Jaguars’ CB3 in recent weeks; his run defense was strong and he came up with key plays in wins against the Houston Texans and San Francisco 49ers, but more importantly he has also unfortunately allowed the second-most yards of any cornerback this season simply because he has been beat downfield on multiple occasions.
Newsome ranked 51st overall (76.5) in PFSN’s CB Impact metric, with Campbell ranking 37th (80.4).
Both players have yet to earn Pro Bowl honors.
The Jaguars host the Seattle Seahawks in Week 6 on Sunday at EverBank Stadium; kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. EST.
