The Jacksonville Jaguars’ wide receiver duo for the 2025 NFL season is shaping up to be one of the most dynamic in the league. The team selected WR/CB Travis Hunter in the latest draft, and he’s already carrying high expectations for his performance on both offense and defense.
In 2024, the franchise struck gold by drafting receiver Brian Thomas Jr. When asked about how the two are working together in practice, Thomas revealed that they’re competing internally for the title of the team’s top wideout, a battle that ultimately benefits the entire franchise.
Brian Thomas Jr. Talks About Relationship With Travis Hunter
A strong receiving duo is a difference-maker in today’s NFL. When you have a quarterback like Trevor Lawrence, who entered the league with high expectations, flashed elite potential, earned a contract extension, and then saw his performance decline, surrounding him with talent is a wise investment.
That’s why the Jaguars went all-in on offense this offseason, hiring offensive-minded head coach Liam Coen and selecting prodigy two-player Hunter with the No. 2 overall pick.
Recently, Thomas spoke about building chemistry with Hunter in practice and how the two constantly push each other to improve.

“We compete in everything we do. We come out here each and every day just to come out here striving to be the best,” Thomas said.
In 2024, Thomas had an outstanding rookie season, recording 1,282 yards and 10 touchdowns, standing out as a lone bright spot in the Jaguars’ offense. This unit ranked just 18th in the PFSN Offense+ metric but has the potential to take a significant leap forward next season.
Much of that improvement hinges on a lighter, more dynamic offense and a QB-friendly system, something Coen implemented last year with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Of course, other factors, such as the offensive line, play a role, but the real key lies in young talents like Thomas and Hunter stepping up.
Speaking about Hunter, Thomas shared that the rookie constantly asks him questions, always looking to understand the system better and improve his technique — a trait he’s carried with him since college.
“He’s been asking a lot of questions. But, I mean, that’s just him trying to be the best that he can be,” Thomas added.
“Just talking throughout, talking through little things, plays, and why we run these certain plays versus these certain looks. So, just little things like that. I mean, he wants to be the best. We both want to be the best. So, we just come out and compete each and every day. And whatever he needs help with, I’m glad to help.”
The Jaguars will kick off the season against the Carolina Panthers on Sept. 7, marking the first time we’ll see the duo in action under Coen. If expectations are met, Jacksonville could show a much different performance within the division, potentially even contending for the title.
