Isaiah Likely Injury Update: Latest on Ravens TE, His Week 3 Availability vs. Lions

Thursday's practice and media availability for the Baltimore Ravens provided fans with an injury update for TE Isaiah Likely. Will he play in Week 3?

The Baltimore Ravens, who returned to practice on Thursday ahead of Week 3, provided an injury update for backup tight end Isaiah Likely. The tight end suffered a broken foot early on during training camp and has since undergone surgery.

He returned to practice last Friday, working out with Baltimore’s Tight Ends Coach, George Godsey. Because he was not placed on injured reserve, the status of Likely has been a talked-about topic, with everyone wondering how soon he’ll be fully available.

Isaiah Likely Says He Wants to Return Sooner Than Later

Likely is seeking to build off a season in which he posted career-highs in receptions (42), yards (477), and six touchdowns. Given that he recently returned to practice last Friday, Likely getting a limited practice is another positive development.

According to Kevin Eck of BaltimoreRavens.com, Likely has said he’s anxious to get back out on the field.

“Where I’m at right now is really being able to trust myself, being able to just be me,” Likely said. “I know when I get out there, the fans, my players, my brothers, my coaches, all want to see me be me. Not being timid, being hesitant to go make those splash plays that I do.

Baltimore will have two more practices ahead of their Monday night game against the Detroit Lions. The Ravens are currently 1-1 so far after a tight 41-40 loss against the Buffalo Bills on September 7 and a 41-17 win over the Chicago Bears in Week 2.

Likely has also since elaborated on how he broke his foot.

“I had a one-on-one with [safety Sanoussi Kane], caught a ball, and landed on my ankle a little wrong. Sanoussi, trying to make a great play on the ball, ended up stepping on my foot by accident,” he said. “Grabbed my foot, felt like I couldn’t put pressure on it. Went inside, got an MRI, saw that I had cracked my fifth metatarsal.”

Likely, a Coastal Carolina alum, was drafted by the Ravens in the fourth round of the 2022 draft. He has a career total so far of 1,261 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns across 108 catches.

While he has shown promise in his snaps, he is behind veteran Mark Andrews, who is well-established as the starting tight end. Still, Likely sometimes enters the game on multiple TE sets, allowing him to still get playing time with Andrews on the field.

Kickoff against the mighty Detroit Lions of the NFC East is scheduled for 8:15 p.m. ET on Monday, September 22, at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore. The game will be broadcast on ESPN and ABC.
