DK Metcalf has been one of the NFL’s most consistent and explosive wide receivers during his six-year career with the Seattle Seahawks. This season, he made a high-profile move to the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he continues to perform at an elite level.
Off the field, Metcalf made headlines during the offseason when he proposed to his celebrity girlfriend, Normani. Here’s a closer look at their relationship and the story behind the power couple.
DK Metcalf and Normani’s Relationship Timeline
Normani is an American singer best known for being a member of the former girl group Fifth Harmony. She now sings as a solo artist and has worked with the likes of Cardi B and Sam Smith, among others.
Rumors linking Metcalf and Normani first began circulating in 2022 after the pair were spotted dining together in Los Angeles. The relationship was officially confirmed a year later in July 2023, when Normani shared a photo on Instagram of Metcalf kissing her on the cheek at the wedding of her now-fiancé’s teammate, Tyler Lockett.
Their meeting, however, was not by chance. Normani revealed that fellow singer Ciara and her NFL husband, Russell Wilson, introduced them. Normani recalled in an interview with Ebro how Ciara insisted she attend a party she was hosting for an alcohol brand launch.
“She was really adamant about coming [to the party],” Normani said. “I just knew it was something else because she was very adamant, and when I was on the way, she was like, ‘Oh yeah, your boy’s gonna be there.’ ”
Ciara and Russell also orchestrated the introduction on Metcalf’s side, setting up what would become a blind meeting. “They was playing cupid, but it worked,” Normani said. At the time, Normani was in a different situation, having previously dated dancer Rameer Colon, but Ciara encouraged her to explore the connection with Metcalf.
Since going public, Normani has shared her joy in interviews, describing Metcalf as a “blessing” and a source of light, especially during her lowest moments. Speaking with Rolling Stone, she expressed the happiness of being a “lover girl” with someone who reciprocates her feelings.
“I am very happy,” she said. “I wear my heart on my sleeve, and finding space where that’s reciprocated feels good.”
The couple took the next step on March 12 when Metcalf proposed in Houston with both of their families present, and revealed the news during his first Steelers press conference after being traded from the Seahawks. Pointing to Normani off camera, he said, “She right there. Hold that rock up baby.”
The engagement ring is a 4-carat oval diamond set on a solitaire band. According to Olivia Landeau, founder and CEO of The Clear Cut, the price could range from $300,000 to $500,000 or more. With Metcalf agreeing to a five-year, $132 million extension with the Steelers, it was a fitting time to splurge on such a significant piece.
Metcalf has continued to deliver on the field in Pittsburgh, living up to his contract with 19 receptions for 356 yards and four touchdowns through the first five games of the season.
