Will Dak Prescott Start Against the Baltimore Ravens?

Amid familiar heartbreak and skepticism, there’s at least one fresh twist in Dallas: the Cowboys hired Brian Schottenheimer. With this change, the team and its fans hope the renewed leadership will finally bring better results and perhaps break the cycle that’s defined the Cowboys for so long. It all begins, of course, with preseason football.

Prescott will not play in the Dallas Cowboys’ upcoming preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens this weekend. Head coach Brian Schottenheimer confirmed Thursday that Prescott is sitting out Saturday’s matchup, marking his second consecutive missed preseason contest, as he also did not play against the Rams last weekend.

Prescott’s workload has been carefully managed throughout training camp as he continues to recover and build chemistry with new additions. He is reportedly fully healthy following his season-ending hamstring injury last year.

Dallas is using the preseason to evaluate backup quarterbacks Joe Milton and Will Grier, with Milton set to start against Baltimore on Saturday. Prescott’s final chance to see preseason action could be in the Cowboys’ last preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons on Friday, August 22.

In July, sports commentator Chris Broussard shared his blunt assessment of Dallas heading into 2025. “Absolute ceiling is Wild Card and a playoff victory, if they meet the NFC South,” he said. “I’m not predicting that. I think a more realistic ceiling is Wild Card, and you lose your 1st playoff game.”

Despite the blunt criticism, Prescott remains upbeat about the team’s chances. When asked about his bold comments to Rams owner Stan Kroenke, where Prescott confidently predicted a potential showdown in the NFC Championship, critics were quick to pounce. Yet, Prescott’s optimism hasn’t wavered, even as pundits question the Cowboys’ postseason ceiling.

For Cowboys fans, the questions remain the same as they have for years. Can this coaching change finally make the difference? Will the pieces finally come together when it matters most? Only time will tell if 2025 breaks the cycle or simply continues the familiar pattern.
