Denver Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton was supposed to be a key part of the team’s offense for quarterback Bo Nix. Sutton, an eight-year NFL veteran, has played his entire career with the Broncos.
On Sunday, though, against the Indianapolis Colts on the road, Sutton had not caught a pass into the third quarter. What’s happening with Sutton?
What’s Happened to Courtland Sutton?
Sutton has not been a key target for Nix in the ballgame, which has Broncos fans and fantasy managers a bit frustrated. He’s been on the field, but Sutton just is not getting any looks.
While many fans wondered if Sutton is hurt, that’s not the case. There have been no reports of Sutton having any type of injury, so the lack of targets is concerning. Troy Franklin has been Nix’s main target, with six catches for 65 yards and one touchdown at halftime.
Last week, Sutton caught a touchdown pass from Nix against the Tennessee Titans.

In his career, Sutton has 385 receptions for 5,401 yards and 33 touchdowns. He’s averaged 14 yards per catch for Denver. His longest career reception is a 70-yarder back in 2019. Sutton has had to play with a number of different quarterbacks in his tenure with the Broncos.
Fantasy Outlook For Sutton
Entering Sunday’s game, where the Colts led 21-20 at halftime, PFSN’s Kyle Soppe offered some perspective on Sutton’s fantasy football possibilities.
“I’m comfortable locking in a double-digit floor with more upside this week than usually presents itself for Denver’s WR1,” Soppe wrote. “In 2021, he ranked fourth in the air yards per game (109.2) and he posted 110 in Week 1 against Tennessee despite getting the L’Jarius Snead treatment.
“Successful fantasy teams are built around Sutton types and run into a breakout season or two,” Soppe wrote. “Try to remember that. Looking for the diamond in the rough is important, but holding a diamond that was sitting right in front of you holds value as well.”
At 6’4″ and 216 pounds, Sutton is stout enough to go up against the best cornerbacks in the NFL. He’s always been pretty reliable when targeted on a regular basis. So, the fact that he sat at zero receptions and zero targets against Indianapolis is a bit baffling.
The Broncos might consider getting Sutton involved in the second half, as Denver is in a tight ballgame with the Colts and he is one of their top weapons.
