With the Las Vegas Raiders simply trying to get to the finish of the 2025 NFL season, rookie running back Ashton Jeanty is hoping to end it on a good note.
However, Jeanty was not as impactful in the first half at NRG Stadium in Houston as the Raiders were down 13-7 to the Houston Texans near halftime.
What’s Happening With Raiders RB Ashton Jeanty?
So far in the first half, Jeanty is playing a pretty big role in anything that the Raiders are doing on offense. He’s carried the ball 14 times for 44 yards. But Raiders tight end Brock Bowers caught a pass from quarterback Geno Smith in the first half.
Jeanty entered this season with high hopes after a successful college career that concluded at Boise State. But there’s a big difference between college football and the NFL.

This season, Jeanty has been learning some hard lessons. Yet Jeanty is positioning himself for a very successful NFL career, even if this season ends on a losing note.
How has Jeanty been doing overall, though? Entering Sunday’s road game in Houston, Jeanty had 200 carries for 700 yards and four rushing touchdowns. He’s averaging 3.5 yards per carry this season.
One thing that the Raiders initially worked on with Jeanty is his stance in the backfield. When he was back at Boise State, he had a habit of standing straight up before taking a handoff. Yet that doesn’t always work well in the NFL. So, the Raiders’ running backs coach and others are working to address that issue in his play.
Yet the Raiders, no matter how they finish this season, have a solid running back in Jeanty in their future. He, along with his teammates, has had to adjust in recent games after the offensive coordinator, Chip Kelly, was fired by the Raiders’ head coach, Pete Carroll. He should be eagerly looking forward to his second season in Las Vegas.
What can Jeanty learn from a season where Las Vegas entered Sunday’s game with a 2-12 record? Perhaps he can pick up some tips from veteran NFL players like Smith and defensive standout Maxx Crosby. Let’s see how the running back can potentially help the Raiders come back and score a big win on the road against a tough team like the Texans.
