NFL Insider Suggests League-Wide Interest in Green Bay Packers’ Matt LaFleur

This morning, NFL Insider Adam Schefter appeared on the “Pat McAfee Show” to talk football, especially the coaching carousel. With that conversation, LaFleur’s situation with the Packers came up, and Schefter said:

“The Packers and Matt LaFleur have been working on an extension. I think it’s gone a couple of different ways here; right now the way it was described to me earlier today, I think the expectation and belief is that he’s expected back in Green Bay and excited about that opportunity.”

Pat McAfee then goes on to say how he feels that there is a market for LaFleur, which causes Schefter to respond with the following:

“There will be a big market for Matt LaFleur, because if the Green Bay Packers don’t work it out, I’m telling you right now, Matt LaFleur will get more money from other teams, and there would be multiple teams in my mind that would be willing to step in and offer draft pick compensation to the Green Bay Packers to get it done.”

Below is the entire exchange between McAfee and Schefter:

LaFleur has been with the Packers for 7 years (since 2019) and has been solid for the organization. Over 117 regular-season games, the Packers have gone 76-40-1 under his leadership, for a winning percentage of .654.

However, more of his struggles have come during the playoffs. In nine playoff games, the Packers and LaFleur have a 3-6 record, for a .333 winning percentage.

Bringing back LaFleur would be the best thing for the Packers to do. Despite little playoff success, he’s still got them to the playoffs six out of the seven years he’s been with the team. The team is young and still full of potential.

If the relationship sours and the team looks to trade him, there will be plenty of suitors, including the Tennessee Titans, Atlanta Falcons, and Miami Dolphins. However, is the team comfortable with the alternative head coaching candidates currently available?
