Terry McLaurin is not suiting up anytime soon; he is the latest star wide receiver to stage a holdout.
The Washington Commanders’ standout receiver, entering the final year of his contract in 2025, skipped mandatory minicamp this week as he pushes for a new deal.

Adam Schefter’s Update on McLaurin Contract Talks
McLaurin had a career year in 2024 during his first season playing with Jayden Daniels. The rookie quarterback was an immediate success with the Commanders, and McLaurin was his primary target.
He caught 82 passes for 1,096 receiving yards and a career-high 13 touchdowns. The franchise reached the NFC Championship game and is hoping to build on that early success with Daniels at quarterback. To do so, they need to finalize contract talks with their star receiver.
McLaurin’s current deal is a three-year, $68.4 million extension he signed in 2022. He is now entering the final season of that contract and is set to earn $25.5 million in 2025.
While the 2025 earnings are fairly competitive, McLaurin wants long-term security. At 30 years old and coming off career touchdown numbers last season, now is the opportune time for him to cash in. The receiver has been absent for most of the offseason and has not spoken on his ongoing contract negotiations publicly.
On the Pat McAfee show on Thursday, Adam Schefter provided an update, “I think the team feels like it’s going to get something done with Terry McLaurin. I think Terry McLaurin clearly is frustrated with where talks are at, because not only did he not show up for mandatory minicamp, but he hasn’t participated in any of the team’s offseason activities.”
McLaurin has now posted five straight 1,000-yard seasons, despite the ever-changing starting quarterback over the last few years in Washington. Now that they finally have their franchise QB, they’ll want to lock in their best receiver.
Schefter continued by saying, “When you look at his (McLaurin’s) numbers, they’re as good as most any receiver around the league. We’ve seen huge deals given out this offseason. Tee Higgins and Ja’Marr Chase, and since DK Metcalf in Pittsburgh.”

All three of those receivers signed major deals, but each of them was signing their first extension from their original rookie contract. For McLaurin, this will be his second extension, and at the age of 30, it’s not expected to be quite as lucrative as the other receivers mentioned.
Terry McLaurin’s Market Value for a New Deal in 2025
Per Spotrac, McLaurin’s value is set at $31.1 million per season, estimated to sign a three-year, $93 million contract.
That would put him between Tee Higgins, who will make $28.75 per season on his new contract, and DK Metcalf, who will earn $33 million on his new deal with the Steelers.
Fans are still expecting that a deal will get done with the Commanders’ star. There is plenty of time to get it sorted, but the receiver’s frustration is bubbling away.
Mandatory minicamp is now over, and NFL teams are entering a five-week window where a lot of these contract negotiations will likely get ironed out.
