Adam Schefter Predicts Offseason Full of Big Trades

NFL insider Adam Schefter, on “The Adam Schefter Podcast,” pointed to the offseason landscape and suggested teams will not hesitate to make trades due to a lack of top-end talent in free agency and the upcoming NFL Draft.

“With this free agent class, in the eyes of some, considered to be a little bit subpar, and with this draft class considered to be, in the eyes of some, a little subpar, it wouldn’t surprise me if we saw an uptick in trade activity. Schefter said.

Schefter explained that after speaking to general managers and scouts with interest in this free agent class, he received the sentiment that few teams were enthusiastic about the depth it offers. There are a few high-end talents worth targeting, such as George Pickens and Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III, but overall depth is lacking.

Schefter went on to explain that teams have done a strong job of locking up their star players to long contracts to prevent them from reaching free agency. That, however, opens the door for significant trades.

Schefter also noted that few teams are optimistic about the upcoming draft. With both free agency and draft classes considered subpar by most, teams could look to upgrade through the trade market.

The trade market continues to generate speculation. Buzz surrounds names such as Maxx Crosby and A.J. Brown, and Schefter said he would not be surprised to see major players moved this offseason.

With teams focused on extending their star players rather than losing them to free agency without return, front offices have shown no hesitation in trading assets to improve both at the deadline and in the offseason.

If Schefter is correct, the offseason could feature significant trades and notable rumors. At this rate, Schefter believes trade activity will only increase, meaning the NFL offseason could become even more eventful for fans.
