When it comes to Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, there is the potential for headlines every time he opens his mouth. Whether he’s finding positives in the Dallas sun blinding his players after a loss, or publicly announcing the team’s preferred prospects in the draft ahead of time, it’s rarely boring.
But while the rest of the league can enjoy Jones’ fascinating insights and mind-bending reasonings, Cowboys fans are less than impressed. Many of those fans took to social media to voice their disapproval recently, after Jones played down the team’s need to be aggressive in free agency.

Cowboys Fans Furious With Jerry Jones
After Cowboys executive Stephen Jones stated that the team would be “selectively aggressive” in free agency this year, fans could have been forgiven for getting excited. After a 7-10 season that saw the team miss out on the playoffs and resulted in head coach Mike McCarthy’s departure, the Cowboys are in need of a boost.
But after delaying proceedings with McCarthy, and missing out on several top head coaching prospects as a result, Jones was to disappoint fans again.

Contrary to what his son had suggested previously, Jones downplayed the need for free-agent signings. Speaking after Zack Martin’s retirement press conference, Jones made Dallas’ approach to the offseason clear.
“I don’t think aggressive is the right word,” Jones said. “I’m not looking at free agency as a place to fill voids.”
Cowboys fans were understandably frustrated with these comments, and many have voiced their frustrations on social media.
One fan referred to Jones as “incompetent.”
Another referred to the organization as a “cheap joke of a franchise.”
This is awesome, they’re saving me a ton of money bc I won’t spend a dime on anything for this team, didn’t last year, won’t again, cheap joke of a franchise

And it didn’t stop there, with two other fans calling Jones a clown, and perhaps more whimsically, a “clod.”
Dudes a 🤡

What Do the Cowboys Need?
The Cowboys struggled in the run game on both sides of the ball in 2024, ranking third in yards allowed per rush attempt and 30th in offensive rushing yards per attempt (both tied). They also allowed the most rushing touchdowns over the regular season, with 25.
With a host of top running back prospects available in the 2025 NFL Draft, the Cowboys can wait until then to address that issue. But with nine-time Pro-Bowler and seven-time first-team All-Pro Zack Martin retiring, there is a big hole to fill on the offensive line.
Add in the team’s defensive struggles in 2024 and the lack of a clear number-two receiver and there is much work to be done.
Dak Prescott should be healthy in September after his season-ending injury derailed the Cowboys’ 2024 season. But to keep pace in an NFC East division that boasts the Super Bowl-winning Eagles and a resurgent Washington Commanders, the Cowboys will need a lot more.
CeeDee Lamb Urges Cowboys’ Front Office To Upgrade WR2
Cowboys superstar CeeDee Lamb recently shared his thoughts on this year’s draft class, specifically calling out Arizona’s Tetairoa McMillan, Missouri’s Luther Burden III, Ohio State’s Emeka Egbuka, and Oregon’s Tez Johnson as standouts.
“I like a lot of them, actually,” Lamb said in an interview with RG. “ ”Just looking for a great complement. I’m not really pressed about having whoever. It doesn’t matter, as long as you come here ready to work, I’m excited to teach you, excited to work and just gradually gravitate towards instilling you in this offense. It’s gonna be fun with whoever.”
Lamb didn’t compare any of them to himself but emphasized that each has unique traits that could help the Cowboys.
“At the end of the day, you’re gonna be great at something else that maybe I’m not,” he said.
Jones’ team has the No. 12 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, giving them a real shot at landing a top-tier receiver. The Cowboys’ passing game struggled last season, ranking 21st in scoring. This was largely due to a lack of reliable weapons beyond Lamb.
Jalen Tolbert was the team’s second-leading receiver with just 610 yards, while KaVontae Turpin followed with 420 yards. The Cowboys could benefit from adding a dynamic rookie who could immediately elevate the offense.
Dallas’ front office has decisions to make beyond the draft, including a possible extension for linebacker Micah Parsons. However, Lamb made it clear that he restructured his deal for one reason—winning. “I want to win. It’s gonna take more than just myself,” he said.
Dallas has been linked to Los Angeles Rams Super Bowl MVP Cooper Kupp as a possible veteran addition, but whether they go the free agency route or draft a receiver, Lamb is ready to welcome new talent. Now, it’s up to the Cowboys’ front office to make the right move and maximize the talent around their star wideout.
