‘I Have Proven Nothing’ – Cam Skattebo Shares Awe-Inspiring Message Ahead of Rookie Season With Giants

Cam Skattebo was a college football sensation, but he's making it clear to everyone that he's done nothing at the professional level. Yet.

Cam Skattebo was a college football sensation. The running back started his career at Sacramento State (2021-2022) and earned Big Sky Offensive Player of the Year honors in 2022. He averaged 7.48 yards per carry through the two years, setting a school record. He transferred to Arizona State in 2023 and had a breakout season in 2024.

The 5’9″, 219-pound running back had 1,711 rushing yards, 605 receiving yards, and 24 total touchdowns last season. His 1,711 rushing yards is a Sun Devils single-season record.

Cam Skattebo’s Epic Focus on 2025

Skattebo has been at the Giants’ rookie mini-camp and addressed reporters on Saturday. When asked how he finds motivation, he said, “Yeah, how many snaps in the NFL have you seen me play? Zero, right?”

“I’ve proved nothing,” Skattebo said. “I proved what I am in college, but I’ve proved nothing at this level, so now, where I’m at, I have to prove myself, and if that’s for five years or for 10 years, and continue to prove myself. The best do it for the longest. So, continue to do that, just work my butt off, you know, till the time comes.”

Skattebo has a lot to prove, and the attitude he showcased with his answer has left fans impressed. According to NFL.com, he has a vertical jump of 39.5″ and a 10’3″ broad jump. While he reportedly doesn’t have elite speed, he’s explosive, has a low center of gravity, and is tenacious on short-yardage and goal-line plays.

The Giants’ running back room isn’t elite, so he has a chance to stand out. His competition is veteran Devin Singletary and scat-back Tyrone Tracy Jr. Right now, the safe bet is that Skattebo gets work on special teams, short-yardage situations, and maybe even in third-down groups, depending on how his pass protection skills develop.

Skattebo’s a violent runner who rarely goes down on first contact. He was heavily relied on in the passing game and adapted well to multiple offensive schemes throughout his college career. His comments above reflect a locker room leader who holds himself accountable. Now it’s up to one of the hardest runners in the 2025 draft class to go out and seize a job.

Fans may recall his shining moment in college in the CFP quarterfinal Peach Bowl game. Even though Arizona State lost to the Texas Longhorns 39-31 in double overtime, Skattebo scored legendary numbers. He had 30 carries for 143 yards, two touchdowns, eight receptions for 99 yards, and threw a 42-yard touchdown pass on a trick play. He was the game’s offensive MVP.
