How Many Super Bowls Have the Patriots Won? A Look at New England’s Super Bowl Appearances and Victories

With the New England Patriots trying to get back to the Super Bowl again, just how many Super Bowls have they won and played in?

When it comes to the Super Bowl, there’s been no franchise that’s probably been more familiar with appearing in the game than the New England Patriots. With head coach Bill Belichick and quarterback Tom Brady leading the charge, the Patriots have been able to collect a number of Super Bowl trophies.

As the Patriots are battling the Denver Broncos in the AFC Championship Game on a cold, snowy day at Empower Field at Mile High in Denver, the team might be making another trip to the NFL’s biggest game of its season.

How Many Super Bowls Have the Patriots Been In as a Franchise?

Throughout their illustrious career under Patriots owner Robert Kraft, the franchise has appeared in 11 Super Bowls. Those six Super Bowl wins tie the Patriots with the Pittsburgh Steelers for the most in NFL history.

How many of those appearances, though, resulted in the Patriots holding the Vince Lombardi Trophy high in the air? That would be six times. Back in 2002, under Belichick with Brady calling the signals, New England beat the St. Louis Rams 20-17.

In 2004 and 2005, the Patriots won back-to-back Super Bowls. First, they defeated the Panthers, 32-29. Then, in 2005, New England stopped the Philadelphia Eagles 24-21. Then, in 2015, the Patriots held off the Seattle Seahawks 28-24 after cornerback Malcolm Butler’s incredible goal-line interception.

Then, in 2017, the Patriots pulled off what might be their biggest Super Bowl win of all time. Trailing the Atlanta Falcons 28-3, Brady and his teammates went to work. They rallied from behind to defeat the Falcons 34-28 in overtime.

The Patriots’ most recent Super Bowl title goes back to the 2018 season, when they defeated the Los Angeles Rams 13-3.

After this stretch, though, New England went through a few lean seasons. Belichick eventually left the Patriots’ organization. Kraft hired Jerrod Mayo, whose tenure lasted just one season. That’s when the franchise went out and hired Mike Vrabel, who played for the Patriots during his NFL career, to return and try to lead New England back to the Super Bowl.

As the Patriots are battling against the Denver Broncos in the AFC Championship Game on Sunday at cold, snowy Empower Field at Mile High in Denver, quarterback Drake Maye is looking to add his name to the Super Bowl appearance list. Vrabel wouldn’t mind putting his name alongside his old coach as one of the Patriots’ legends, too.

Kraft would love to host another Vince Lombardi Trophy in the air, this time with Maye as his quarterback.
