How Many Times Has Lamar Jackson Won the MVP Award? Revisiting the Ravens QB’s Accolades

Lamar Jackson’s career has been filled with MVP honors, record-breaking moments, and playoff heartbreak, but his biggest test still awaits.

When you think of the Baltimore Ravens, you think of Lamar Jackson. Since stepping onto the field as a rookie in 2018, he’s been more than just the team’s quarterback; he’s been their heartbeat.

With his dazzling runs, highlight-reel throws, and unmatched energy, Jackson has redefined what the position can look like. Along the way, he’s done something only a handful of players in NFL history have achieved: win the league’s Most Valuable Player award twice.

How Many MVPs Has Lamar Jackson Won in His Career?

Jackson’s first MVP came in 2019, and it was unforgettable. Taking over as Baltimore’s full-time starter, he electrified fans and opponents alike, breaking the single-season rushing record for a quarterback with 1,206 yards while also leading the league in touchdown passes.

At just 22, he became the youngest player to win the award since the NFL-AFL merger, and he did it unanimously. For a player doubted by many coming into the league, with some even suggesting he change positions, the award wasn’t just a trophy. It was validation that he belonged at quarterback and that he was something special.

Four years later, Jackson captured his second MVP following the 2023 season, a sign that he wasn’t just a flash in the pan. By then, his game had grown. He wasn’t simply a run-first quarterback anymore.

He was evolving into a passer who could carve up defenses from the pocket, while still being the most dangerous runner on the field. His 2024 season showed the full scope of his talents: 4,172 passing yards, 41 touchdowns, and another 800 rushing yards.

Evolving as a Pass-Rusher, Postseason Success Remains

He even became the first player in NFL history to combine 4,000 passing yards and 800 rushing yards in a single year, while also surpassing Michael Vick for the most career rushing yards by a quarterback.

But as much as the MVPs highlight Jackson’s greatness, there’s one thing missing: playoff glory. His postseason record sits at 3-5, and his Ravens have often run into brick walls in the form of Kansas City or Buffalo.

Baltimore reached the AFC Championship Game in 2023 but fell short of the Super Bowl. For Jackson, the criticism has always been the same: he can dominate the regular season, but can he win when it matters most?

The Ravens have given Jackson the kind of support he has always required, with Derrick Henry hammering the football and Zay Flowers emerging as a standout receiver. His two MVPs have already disproved the skeptics. The only issue remains whether he will eventually win a title for Baltimore this year.
