The Arizona Cardinals are coming off one of the strangest games of the NFL season. They were blown out at home by the San Francisco 49ers but had one of the best offensive performances of the season. In fact, Jacoby Brissett set the NFL record for most completions in a game with 47.
The Cardinals had tremendous success through the air, mostly because they were trailing the entire game. However, Brissett is still expected to remain the starting QB even when Kyler Murray is ready to play. Murray was placed on IR before their Week 10 game and will not be eligible to return until Week 14.
Kyler Murray Uncertain to Play Again this Season
Murray has been bothered by a foot injury for a large portion of the season, and the Cardinals felt it best to put him on IR to give him proper time to heal. Even if he returns to full health, it appears unlikely that he will start another game for the team this season.
He has had an inconsistent season, and the Cardinals seem to move the ball better when Brissett leads the offense. Despite not winning many games, the Cardinals are scoring points with Brissett, and that is all they can hope for. Brissett has more passing yards, touchdowns, and a higher passer rating than Murray in the same number of games started this season.

There remains a strong possibility that Murray has played his final snap for the Cardinals. The partnership has yielded mixed results, and a trade this offseason could be a logical step for both sides. As a former No. 1 pick, Murray’s talent would likely attract interest from quarterback-needy teams across the league.
Cardinals Looking for a Fresh Start
If the Cardinals choose to move on from Murray, it is unlikely that Brissett would be viewed as the long-term solution at quarterback. Instead, the organization would likely seek a new franchise leader, ideally through the NFL Draft.
With the Cardinals out of playoff contention, they are positioned to secure a potential top-10 draft pick, offering a valuable opportunity to address the quarterback position. Regardless of roster strength, sustained success in the NFL is nearly impossible without consistent, high-level quarterback play.
For Arizona, this offseason presents a critical window to identify and invest in a new franchise quarterback.
