Giants Face Backfield Shake-Up After Tyrone Tracy Injury

ESPN’s Jordan Raanan reported that Giants running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. suffered a dislocated right shoulder and will likely be sidelined for a significant period of time. The injury occurred when Tracy was hit hard near the sideline by two Chiefs defenders. He immediately tapped his arm to alert trainers and did not return to the game.

Tracy had been showing signs of life before the injury. He logged seven carries for 29 yards and caught two passes for seven yards in the opening half. It was a promising start for the second-year back after a slow beginning to the season. Entering Week 3, he had just 22 carries for 68 yards across two games.

Last season, the Giants believed they had found a cornerstone after selecting Tracy in the fifth round out of Iowa. He rushed for 839 yards and five touchdowns as a rookie, averaging 4.4 yards per carry.

Expectations were high in 2025, but he has managed only 3.1 yards per attempt through three weeks. The injury came just as he seemed to be settling in.

Quarterback Russell Wilson spoke candidly about the loss after the game. “It’s tough when you see a guy like Tracy, one of your star running backs, go down with a shoulder on the sideline. Had a good couple runs, couple of good plays. So I think that was tough for us, but I thought we continued to battle throughout.”

With Tracy sidelined, rookie Cam Skattebo stepped into the spotlight. The fourth-round pick out of Arizona State outsnapped veteran Devin Singletary 32 to nine, and led the offense with 121 total yards.

He rushed 10 times for 60 yards and a touchdown while catching six passes for 61 yards. Skattebo became just the second Giants rookie in 40 years to reach 60 rushing and 60 receiving yards in the same game, joining Saquon Barkley.

Skattebo’s emergence underscores the Giants’ next step. Ranked 21st in the league at 96 rushing yards per game, New York will need his production as Tracy recovers. While the exact timeline remains unclear, Tracy’s absence forces the Giants to lean heavily on their rookie to stabilize a struggling offense.
