The Green Bay Packers will be without their star receiver, Jayden Reed, for a while. But how much time will Reed miss after leaving Week 2 early?

The Green Bay Packers emerged victorious from their Week 2 home matchup against the Washington Commanders, but they didn’t come out unscathed. Packers star Jayden Reed exited the game in the first quarter after falling hard on his right shoulder.

Reed appeared to be in severe discomfort as he left the field and walked down the tunnel, and he was later ruled out of the game. But will Reed miss further time, and how will the injury affect the Packers’ season?

Packers Star Jayden Reed Injured in Thursday Night Win  Over the Commanders

It’s commonplace for players to leave the field hurt in the NFL; it happens every game. Some injuries, though, have far greater impacts on a player and his team. Reed’s injury threatens to impact Green Bay’s season in a big way, with the receiver confirmed to have suffered a broken collarbone.

On the game’s opening drive, the Packers’ offense came out swinging and looked to have scored the game’s first touchdown. Reed caught a perfectly thrown deep ball from Jordan Love in front of the pylon before carrying the ball over the goal line under the weight of a tackle.

Reed was left struggling on the ground, visibly hurt. He was seen to by medical staff and jogged over to the sideline without help. However, something was clearly bothering the receiver, who was then taken down the tunnel and didn’t return to the game.

To add insult to injury, Reed’s touchdown was called back for a holding penalty, rendering the play as good as pointless. The receiver was ruled out of the game at halftime, with the rest of Love’s receivers stepping up in his absence.

How Much Time Will Reed Miss?

After the game, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur spoke to the media and confirmed that Reed will miss significant time. NFL insider Ian Rapoport later stated online that the receiver could miss six to eight weeks if all goes well, with the team hoping to have him back around November.

An eight-week layoff would see the receiver miss his team’s games against the likes of the Dallas Cowboys, Cincinnati Bengals, and Pittsburgh Steelers. He would also narrowly miss out on the team’s matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles, though a six or seven-week layoff would see him return just in time for that game.

#UPDATE: Reed will have surgery next week, and is eyeing a return in November.

A beaten-up Packers team slumped to a defeat against the Eagles in the playoffs last season, finishing the game with their top-three wide receivers all sidelined. Reed was one of those three, but was putting on a heroic display before leaving with a shoulder injury.

Tucker Kraft made the biggest splash after Reed’s exit against Washington, catching six of his seven targets for 124 yards and a touchdown. The tight end has quietly become one of the more impressive tight ends in the NFL, and should be expected to take another step forward in Reed’s absence.

The Packers’ outstanding defense should ease some pressure on the offense to score points, but the team would still love to have its star receiver back as soon as possible.
