In Week 16, the New Orleans Saints were able to get their third win in a row, this time against a depleted New York Jets team. Overall, it was a dominant victory for the Saints and provided significant momentum heading into next season.
There were several strong performances in Sunday’s win, and one player who looked like his old self was QB/TE/RB Taysom Hill. It was fun to see an excellent performance from arguably the greatest gadget player of all time, and this game may have cemented him as the best.
Taysom Hill Makes History
For New Orleans, the running game was a significant concern throughout Sunday’s game. With Alvin Kamara and Devin Neal both sidelined, someone needed to step up, and that player was Hill.
He got off to a rough start with a fumble on the opening drive, but rebounded quickly and went on to make several big plays, including throwing a touchdown late in the game.

Hill finished the win with 38 passing yards, one passing touchdown, 42 rushing yards, and 36 receiving yards. It was the ultimate stat line for the ultimate gadget player, and with those numbers, he also made history.
In the Super Bowl era, Hill is the only player to record at least 1,000 passing, rushing, and receiving yards over the course of his career.

Hill’s historic milestone perfectly encapsulates his career. The dynamic player has lined up as a quarterback, running back, tight end, and special teams contributor, including blocking punts, among many other roles. Since becoming New Orleans’ gadget player, comparisons have become commonplace, with fans often saying, “(insert player name here) could be the next Taysom Hill.” The Saints even attempted to find a successor by selecting quarterback Tommy Stevens in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
It is nearly guaranteed that for years to come, players will continue to be compared to Hill, and there may never be another who reaches this unique milestone.
Looking ahead, Hill will turn 36 before next season, and with the recent injuries he has dealt with, his time in the NFL may be nearing its end. If that is the case, Sunday’s game marked the Saints’ final home game of the season and could also represent the final home appearance of Hill’s career in New Orleans.
