Top 10 Highest-Paid Offensive Linemen Are All Tackles, Except Trey Smith

The Chiefs selected Smith in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He became part of arguably the best interior offensive line in the league with Creed Humphrey and Joe Thuney over the last four seasons. Smith and Humphrey will have to carry on alone as Thuney is now with the Chicago Bears.

Smith’s deal comes with a $17 million signing bonus, per Spotrac. He’s a two-time Super Bowl champion and is now the highest-paid guard by $3.5 million annually. Where does he land on the top-10 highest-paid OL list?

10. Jordan Mailata, LT, Philadelphia Eagles

AAV: $22 million

Mailata was a seventh-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, and the Australian native has become one of the best left tackles in the league. He played rugby before taking up football and has become one of the anchors on arguably the best offensive line in the NFL. Mailata became a Super Bowl champion this past season.

9. Jake Matthews, LT, Atlanta Falcons

AAV: $22.5 million

Atlanta made Matthews the sixth overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, and he’s only missed one game in his 11-year career. He’s the son of Hall of Fame offensive lineman Bruce Matthews and has been a stalwart for the Falcons since entering the league.

8. Andrew Thomas, LT, New York Giants

AAV: $23.5 million

Thomas, the fourth overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, has played all five seasons for the Giants and signed a five-year extension in 2023. He’s struggled to stay on the field the last two seasons but is easily the brightest spot on New York’s troubled offensive line.

7. Trey Smith, RG, Kansas City Chiefs

AAV: $23.5 million

Kansas City placed the nonexclusive franchise tag on Smith earlier this offseason, but the new extension removes that tag. Smith has been a highly effective guard since he entered the league.

6. Laremy Tunsil, LT, Washington Commanders

AAV: $25 million

The Miami Dolphins selected Tunsil 13th overall in the 2016 NFL Draft. He spent three years in Miami before being traded to the Houston Texans, who then traded him to Washington this offseason. He signed a three-year, $75 million extension with Houston in 2023.

5. Lane Johnson, RT, Philadelphia Eagles

AAV: $25 million

Johnson was the fourth overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft. He’s been with the Eagles for his 12-year career and is the other half of Philadelphia’s elite tackle duo. Johnson was among the few holdovers from the Eagles’ Super Bowl 52-winning team. He’s now a two-time Super Bowl champion.

4. Christian Darrisaw, LT, Minnesota Vikings

AAV: $26 million

Darrisaw was the 23rd overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. He signed a four-year, $113 million extension in 2024 but played only seven games last season before suffering a knee injury.

3. Trent Williams, LT, San Francisco 49ers

AAV: $27.553 million

Williams, the fourth overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, is arguably the best left tackle in the game. After 10 seasons with Washington, Williams was traded to the 49ers. The 11-time Pro Bowler has been named a first-team All-Pro three times since heading to San Francisco and anchored the 49ers’ recent Super Bowl teams.

2. Penei Sewell, RT, Detroit Lions

AAV: $28 million

Detroit made Sewell the seventh overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. He’s quickly developed into one of the game’s best right tackles and signed a four-year, $112 million extension in 2024. Sewell is the heart and soul of the Detroit offense.

1. Tristan Wirfs, LT, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

AAV: $28.12 million

Wirfs was the 13th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft and won Super Bowl 55 as a rookie. While he’s been highly durable since entering the league, Wirfs will start the 2025 season on the PUP list.
