“Happy Gilmore 2” is almost here, and one major co-star recently shared his feelings about Kansas City Chiefs tight end-turned-actor Travis Kelce.
With its Netflix release date set for July 25, the decades-long anticipated sequel is set to reunite comedy legend Adam Sandler with most of the main cast from the original movie. Among those big names set to return is Happy’s arch-nemesis Shooter McGavin, played by the always villainous Christopher McDonald.
While audiences can expect some cameos from various sports icons, there is one current NFL player that McDonald had some special words for at this time.
Christopher McDonald Speaks on Chiefs TE Travis Kelce
Recently, McDonald sat down with Sports Illustrated reporter Liam McKeone for an interview. McDonald spoke at length about making the film. He talked about how he has been itching to make this movie for years and how shocked he was by Kelce’s surprise cameo.
McKeone asked McDonald, “We already know ‘Happy Gilmore 2’ is going to be loaded with cameos from professional athletes, both in golf and otherwise. How was your experience working with those stars?”
“The big surprise for me was Travis Kelce,” McDonald said. “I have a love-hate relationship with Travis Kelce; his team beats my Buffalo Bills way too often. And I blame the refs sometimes.
“You get very into football, which I am,” McDonald told McKeone. “But that’s a great team. Travis being the superstar that he is, at the end of the day, he’s a tremendous guy… I really loved the guy as a person. And, surprisingly, a very good actor. He had too much fun.”
Is Travis Kelce a Good Actor?
A “love-hate” relationship is the exact feeling most Bills fans have for Kelce, who’s also the boyfriend of pop star Taylor Swift. However, Kelce, like many other athletes, has seemingly found a love in front of the camera. According to McDonald, he’s pretty good.
Kelce’s cameo is part of his growing presence off the field, including hosting “Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity” and joining the cast of FX’s “Grotesquerie.” He is known for his larger-than-life personality.
As for his cameo in “Happy Gilmore 2,” Kelce plays an attendant and delivers one of the few lines in the movie’s holiday trailer: “It’s great to see you back, Mr. Gilmore.”

The 35-year-old tight end has never refused opportunities to branch out from football. While some may question the move, citing a shift in his focus from football, it’s clear that Kelce loves bringing out his off-field persona for the fans.
