‘I Don’t Get Into That’ — Hall of Famer Cris Carter Claps Back at Asante Samuel Over Bold ‘Most Overrated’ WR Remark

After Asante Samuel labelled him overrated, Hall of Fame wide receiver Cris Carter went the patronizing route to blow his arguments to shreds.

It doesn’t take more than one errant comment to turn a situation ugly and into a full-blown legacy measurement contest. Cris Carter’s dismissal of Chad Johnson has now led to a full-blown beef between Carter and former All-Pro cornerback Asante Samuel.

After Samuel had some extremely harsh comments that questioned Carter’s effectiveness on the field, the Minnesota Vikings legend fired back with some incendiary comments of his own. Day by day, the situation doesn’t feel any closer to a resolution.

Cris Carter Finally Responds To ‘Most Overrated’ Knock from Asante Samuel

Carter has a virtually impeccable resume. With 2 First Team All-Pro selections, 1 Second Team All-Pro selection, 8 consecutive 1000-yard receiving years and over 13,000 yards in his career, his stats speak volumes to how much Carter contributed on the field. Still, he remains the subject of scrutiny after his comments on Johnson sparked Samuel’s fiery response.

Taking issue with the Hall of Famer’s assessment of Johnson’s speed, the Samuel went extremely hard on the legend’s career, calling him the most overrated wide receiver in history, and summarizing his play style in just one sentence.

“A receiver that catches the ball and is immediately tackled.” A response from Carter felt inevitable, and it finally arrived in the form of a brutal dismissal on the latest episode of his podcast, “Fully Loaded.”

Rather than try to fight back against Samuel’s comments, Carter went a far more disrespectful route by patronizing his comments live on air. Claiming “he had to say that,” the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award winner didn’t give any credence to Samuel.

“He had to say something. He’s trying to defend Chad, but let Chad fight his own battles, man. He don’t need your help.” However, he did clarify his comments regarding the Cincinnati Bengals legend. “I didn’t say Chad was overrated. I said Chad wasn’t a Hall of Famer.”

He was then asked how the situation would unfold if the two-time Super Bowl champion was the one defending against him. Carter was unfazed. “I don’t get into that. It doesn’t matter.”

Instead, he pointed to the legendary talent he did go up against, including names like Deion Sanders, Darrell Green, Aeneas Williams, Ronde Barber, John Lynch, Charles Woodson, and Leroy Butler.

All seven of those names are in the Hall of Fame already. Simply put, Carter made his point with incredible subtlety about the competition he went up against regularly while putting together a Hall of Fame career.
