After a four-game winning streak, the name on everyone’s lips was Coach Prime and the Colorado Buffaloes. But after their Week 13 loss to the Kansas Jayhawks at Arrowhead Stadium, many are left disappointed. At the helm of the team are quarterback Shedeur Sanders and wide receiver Travis Hunter, both of whom continued their Heisman-level play in the game.
But a few others, including Deion Sanders’ younger son, safety Shilo Sanders, fell short. While the defender recorded 13 total tackles, he also committed three penalties (a horse collar tackle, offsides, and a personal foul).
Hall of Famer TE Shannon Sharpe on Coach Prime’s Son’s Performance
Former tight end Shannon Sharpe talked about Shilo and his play against Kansas on the Night Cap show on Sunday (Nov. 24):
“They missed too many tackles. Shilo has to understand that everything can’t be a big hit. He takes some terrible angles on, he really does. … If you take the wrong angle, you already outplayed because your momentum is not going to let you change directions. And he has to understand that everything can’t be a big hit.
“It’s okay to sometimes just get the guy on the ground. I know the crowd goes crazy. I know your sidelines goes crazy when you throw those big hits. But what it does, it puts you in a vulnerable position because a lot of time you’re gonna be out of position.”

Shilo, who missed three weeks this season due to a forearm injury, has recorded 55 total tackles (39 solo and 16 assists), with one forced fumble, one pass deflection, and one sack in the ongoing campaign.
After Colorado’s second loss of the season in Week 7 to Kansas State (the game Shilo returned from injury), Coach Prime was dissatisfied with his safety’s performance.
Sanders didn’t hold back, describing his Week 7 play as “horrible” and “rusty,” explaining that he did not execute open-field tackles as expected and had trouble with his footing. He had 10 tackles in the game.
With the regular season heading towards its end, the Buffaloes’ playoff hopes now depend on their next win as well as some luck. After the Week 13 loss, the Buffs are now in a four-way tie in their conference with Arizona State, Iowa State, and BYU. Colorado needs at least two losses among these teams in their Week 14 games if it wants a ticket to the Big 12 Championship.
