Tom Brady had known well in advance that he would be joining Fox. Greg Olsen knew it, too. With Brady joining the company, many expected Olsen to take a step back from his top spot on the Fox broadcasting depth chart.
Of course, that’s exactly what happened, setting the stage for a potentially awkward relationship between the two. However, Olsen has gone to great lengths to dispel that notion and recently added some details about his relationship with Brady.

Greg Olsen Reveals Friendly Hangouts With Tom Brady
Speaking on a May 30 edition of “Pardon My Take,” via Awful Announcing, the former Carolina Panthers tight end claimed he was “very good friends” with the former New England Patriots quarterback.
“We’ve hung out, personally. We talk on the phone, we keep in touch, he sent a cool video for my youth football team… we talk about raising teenage daughters, we’ve gone to play golf together, we hung out at the Bahamas at a little retreat. We’ve gotten to be very good friends on a very personal level since he’s joined Fox,” he explained.
So, the two are friends. However, if there’s only one job available at the top, that doesn’t mean they won’t compete. Brady has the job, and Olsen is trailing, but it appears the former tight end won’t let the friendship get in the way of him getting back to being top dog.
Olsen’s Accomplishments at Fox Offer Him Hope To Regain Top Footing Elsewhere
Of course, it is no secret that Brady is tied up at Fox for essentially the next decade. If the former Panthers tight end wants to be the top commentator for the network, that is at least how long he will seemingly need to wait. If Brady gets an extension, it could be even longer.
However, if Olsen were willing to one day jump ship to ESPN’s Monday Night Football, Amazon’s TNF, or NBC’s Sunday Night Football, he could once again get back on top. Of course, it appears that all of the color commentator spots are taken for the foreseeable future there as well.
That said, Olsen has covered the Super Bowl and has won a Sports Emmy for Top Event Analyst in 2023, according to Fox Sports. As such, his resume is already a competitive one that would seemingly beat out many others.
The door has been shut, but it hasn’t been locked. The key could be coming via a conveyor belt, but it will take Olsen spotting and grabbing it.
