Graham Glasgow Sends Emotional Message After Lions Release OL to Save $5.5M in Salary Cap Space

Longtime Lions lineman Graham Glasgow reacts after being released just hours after Detroit’s trade for RB David Montgomery.

The Detroit Lions continued reshaping their roster Monday, making another significant move just hours after trading running back David Montgomery to the Houston Texans. The follow-up decision created additional salary cap flexibility but also marked the end of a long tenure for a veteran offensive lineman.

Detroit Lions Release Graham Glasgow, Clearing $5.5M in Cap Space

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Lions released Graham Glasgow in a move that saves approximately $5.5 million against the salary cap. The 33-year-old now becomes a free agent after spending seven of his 10 NFL seasons in Detroit.

Shortly after the news surfaced, Glasgow shared an emotional message on X thanking the organization, his teammates and the city.

“I’m grateful for the 7 years I’ve spent as a Detroit Lion,” Glasgow wrote. “I’m thankful for the great teammates, coaches, and friends I had along the way. I love this city and the fans that have supported me for the better part of a decade. There truly was no place I would have rather been.

“Whether the times were good or bad, I’m proud of the time that I was able to spend here. Detroit and being a Lion has had a huge impact on making me into the man that I am today, and because of that, it will always hold a special place in my heart.”

Glasgow closed by wishing his former teammates well and thanking the franchise “that changed my life.”

A third-round pick out of Michigan in 2016, Glasgow played center and both guard positions during his first stint with the team from 2016 through 2019 before signing with the Denver Broncos in 2020. He returned to Detroit in 2023 and again became a key piece along the interior.

Last season, Glasgow started 14 games. He played primarily right guard in 2023, shifted to left guard in 2024 to accommodate Kevin Zeitler, and moved to center in 2025 following Frank Ragnow’s retirement.

Detroit briefly benched him late in the year while managing a sore knee. The Lions lost both games during that stretch and ultimately missed the playoffs for the first time since 2022.

After the season, Glasgow was noncommittal about his future. With Glasgow now off the roster and Montgomery already traded, Detroit is expected to evaluate veteran center options when free agency opens, as it continues restructuring both its offensive line and salary cap outlook.
