New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart has plans to be in New York for a long time and has quickly made a point of getting familiar with the local press. The rookie took a break recently during rookie minicamp to talk to reporters and began with a simple request, leaving reporters impressed.
Jaxson Dart Keen To Familiarize Himself With the New York Press
The Giants kicked off their two-day minicamp on Friday, May 9, and there was a lot to get done. Rookies Marcus Mbow, Thomas Fidone II, and Korie Black all signed their rookie deals, while former Denver Broncos receiver Lil’Jordan Humphrey was released.
There were also some equipment fittings for the rookies (which were carried out the day before), some practice, and some press opportunities. Those press opportunities included Dart, who immediately impressed reporters with his maturity.
Before questions began, the quarterback requested that each reporter introduce themselves before asking a question so that he could “put a face to name, and all that.”
Dart’s confident and friendly approach went down well with reporters, with The Athletic’s Dan Duggan revealing that he’d never seen a player do that before.
The show of maturity is a good start for the former Ole Miss quarterback, who will likely find himself leading the team in 2026.
Dart Opens Up on ‘Surreal’ First Day in Camp
Following his first day on the field, Dart spoke about the “amazing privilege” he feels to be a part of the Giants organization. Per the team’s official website, Dart revealed that he and fellow first-round pick Abdul Carter were still taking in the reality of their new surroundings.
“It’s been surreal up to this point,” he said. “Me and Abdul were just talking about it. And I feel like it kind of just hit us for the first time, being out here, wearing this jersey, it’s an amazing privilege. We definitely hold it in high regard. And you just want to continue to get better each and every day. And anytime you get to play football, it’s the best.”
The team’s new recruits were treated to an appearance from Giants legend and Hall of Fame defensive end Michael Strahan. Strahan gave the players a motivational speech and informed them of what it means to be a Giant, leaving Dart keen to build on his relationship with the legend.
“He’s a legend, you see him on the walls. I’ve seen him on TV for a long time, he’s bigger in person. So, it’s great to have a person like that who’s open, who’s able to come around the facility a ton. And kind of like Eli (Manning), those are people that you can lean on and ask for advice because they’ve done it at the highest level. So that’s kind of my mindset, and I’m excited to continue to grow my relationship with him.”
Dart has an awful lot of work to do if he is to ever join Strahan in pro football’s all-time members-only club. But for now, he’s made a good first impression.
