Given that Odell Beckham Jr. is at a turning point in his career, many fans are left wondering if he will get one more chance to play for the team that first made him famous. Beckham was cut loose in December following a lackluster 2024 season with the Miami Dolphins, in which he caught nine passes for 55 yards in nine games. Now that he is a free agent with no clear destination, the prospect of rejoining the New York Giants evokes strong feelings but perhaps little reality.
Odell Beckham Jr.’s NFL Future in Doubt, Giants Insider Explains How He Could Return to New York
The outcome of Beckham Jr.’s stay in Miami was not what everyone had anticipated. Even when healthy, he had trouble earning significant playing time and started the season on the PUP list. The concern is not only where OBJ might go next but also whether he will ever suit up again at the age of 32, given his lengthy injury history and diminishing output.
Fans have, of course, turned back to the beginning. New York. MetLife. That catch with one hand. The impact Beckham Jr. had on the Giants during his formative years will never be forgotten. So, is there a chance that Beckham Jr. and Big Blue may have one last chapter?
According to ESPN’s Jordan Raanan, only in one particular way.
“I would not expect Odell Beckham Jr. to be a Giant again,” Raanan said during his “Giants After Dark” Q&A on Breaking Big Blue. “Maybe somewhere along the line, he signs a one-day contract and retires a Giant… I don’t think that Odell Beckham coming back to the Giants this year is something that’s realistic and makes a ton of sense.”
Giants Shift Focus to Future, but Beckham Jr. Could Still Return for One Final Farewell
It’s simply the current status of the roster; it’s not personal. The Giants already have a good, expansive receiver room, so adding someone like Beckham Jr. is unlikely. In 2024, rookie sensation Malik Nabers took control with 109 catches and 1,204 yards. Wan’Dale Robinson, despite his small size, is bold and about to reach a major contract year in 2025, and Darius Slayton is still a dependable senior presence.
Beckham may still have the desire and passion to play, but the Giants have obviously turned their attention to the future. It’s simply the way of the league; it’s not a criticism of Beckham.
But a commemorative one-day contract to retire as a Giant has a different feel. It seems correct. The bond between Beckham and New York never ever waned, and he was very important to this team.
