The New York Giants are entering the 2026 NFL season with optimism, while Odell Beckham Jr.’s return to the locker room has brought a strong sense of nostalgia to the fan base. However, questions remain regarding whether the veteran wide receiver can claim a prominent role on the offense.
Fox Sports reporter Ralph Vacchiano expressed skepticism about Beckham’s chances of making the 53-man roster, drawing backlash from Giants fans online.
Fans Furious over Bold Odell Beckham Jr. Roster Prediction
Beckham had an opportunity during Saturday’s preseason matchup against the Miami Dolphins to improve his case for the roster spot. Facing tight coverage near the back of the end zone, he was unable to catch a potential touchdown pass.
Beckham played 33 snaps against Miami and was targeted four times, finishing with two receptions for 17 yards. Following the game, Vacchiano argued that Beckham must prove he ranks among the Giants’ best receivers like Malik Nabers, Darnell Mooney, and Malachi Fields.
“There’s no doubt Odell Beckham still has moves and ability. Making the N.Y. Giants still feels like a long shot. He needs to prove he’s one of their four best WRs, and the Giants need to be convinced that his body will hold up at age 33. That’s not easy,” Vacchiano tweeted.

Vacchiano added that Beckham has yet to prove he should be prioritized over players like Darius Slayton or Calvin Austin. The assessment did not sit well with many Giants fans, who quickly pushed back on the take.
“This is not what I want to hear. I think I might want OBJ on the Giants more than I want a winning season (though I’d like both),” one fan said.

“Long shot? You are such a [expletive] lame hater,” a fan said.
Beckham was selected by the Giants in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft and immediately became one of the league’s most electrifying playmakers. However, injuries have followed Beckham throughout his career and limited his availability.
“Don’t think it’s that nuts; he moves better than Slayton has in the last 3 years,” another fan said.

“Not easy? He’s easily 3rd or 4th best on this team right now lol,” remarked another fan.

“This is ridiculous; he’s visibly top 2 right now, and it’s not even close to whoever is 3rd,” a fan added.
Beyond on-field production, Beckham’s veteran experience and presence in the locker room could be a valuable asset to the Giants offense.
Head coach John Harbaugh has reportedly been pleased with what Beckham has brought to the team so far. However, as roster cuts approach, he will need strong performances in the remaining preseason action to secure a spot on the final roster.
