Just days before the 2026 NFL Draft, a massive trade just changed everything, including Thursday night’s first round.
Recently, New York Giants star DT Dexter Lawrence and the team reached an impasse in their contract negotiations, and he requested a trade. Well, he got his wish on Saturday night, as Lawrence will be playing with the Cincinnati Bengals next season.
Cincinnati Bengals Make Blockbuster Trade for Star DT Dexter Lawrence
After a disappointing season, the Bengals needed to get back on track to make the playoffs, but the defensive line was a must-fix. Cincinnati lost its No. 1 defensive lineman (Trey Hendrickson) to the division rival Baltimore Ravens, and EDGE was still an issue. It seemed they may try to address their defense with the No. 10 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, but instead, they opted to send that selection to New York for Lawrence.
NFL analysts were stunned by the blockbuster trade.
Bengals writer Paul Dehner pointed out how much of a surprise move this was by Cincinnati: “A truly stunning, all-in, out of character swing from the #Bengals. Wow.”

NFL reporter Field Yates presented how this deal just altered the NFL Draft.
“Wow. An absolute monster deal,” Yates wrote. “I didn’t think the Giants would fetch a first for Lawrence. Not only did they get a 1, they get a top 10 pick. Draft week chaos. I love it.”

Clearly, this move by the Bengals came out of nowhere, and it will have ripple effects that impact the draft.
Cincinnati is now a much better team than what they were just 24 hours ago, and for the Giants, they now have picks No. 5 and No. 10 in 2026.
Let’s see what New York can do with their new draft capital.
