George Pickens Injury Update: Cowboys Star WR Suffers Scare in Dallas’ Training Camp

Cowboys star wide receiver George Pickens suffered a concerning injury scare during Dallas' training camp practice.

The Dallas Cowboys made a major offseason move by trading their 2026 third-round pick and a 2027 fifth-round pick to the Pittsburgh Steelers for wide receiver George Pickens. Dallas is eager to see how the offense shapes up with Pickens, but they may have to wait a little longer as he suffered a minor injury during training camp practice.

George Pickens Faces Injury Setback During Cowboys Training Camp

The Dallas Cowboys staff’s hearts skipped a beat this morning when Pickens, acquired by the team in May, was down on the ground for an extended period during training camp practice.

While many were expecting the worst, Pickens reportedly only suffered a cramp and was able to walk off the field on his own.

It’s good news for both the Cowboys and their fans, as Pickens is expected to be one of the team’s top wide receivers this season alongside superstar CeeDee Lamb. Dallas made the trade hoping Pickens would give quarterback Dak Prescott another reliable weapon.

Pickens has had success in his first three NFL seasons since being drafted by the Steelers in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft. The Georgia product has totaled 2,841 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns, averaging an impressive 16.3 yards per catch. He has quickly established himself as one of the league’s best contested-catch receivers.

That type of receiver was something Dallas lacked last season. Pickens could help the offense stretch the field in the 2025-2026 season, an area they struggled with last year.

The exact severity of Pickens’ cramp remains uncertain, though it’s unlikely he will miss more than a day or two of practice. The Cowboys will navigate today’s session without him, allowing other receivers to step up and earn valuable reps.

While Pickens has faced some attitude concerns early in his career, he appears comfortable and motivated in his new environment in Dallas. He will likely return to full participation as soon as possible.

The Cowboys will rely heavily on his health and contributions this season, as Pickens is poised to be a key factor in the team’s offensive success. Although this morning’s injury scare was unsettling, all signs point to a swift recovery, and the team should expect things to return to normal soon.
