Genesis Smith is a safety from Arizona who is ranked No. 39 on my NFL Draft Top 100 Big Board. This comprehensive scouting report analyzes Smith’s draft potential, current mock draft trends, and where he ranks among the top prospects.
Genesis Smith’s NFL Draft Potential
Genesis Smith is one under-the-radar safety prospect I’m extremely high on relative to the consensus. At 6’2″, 202 pounds, Smith’s sheer length and long-strider range can be overpowered in closing gaps over the middle and erasing separation — and more often than not, he’ll dissuade QBs from throwing altogether. In spite of his height, Smith has the fluidity, sink, snappy base recalibration, and range to thrive in single-high, and he’s a sharp processor who can anticipate routes progressing over the middle and undercut.
Smith needs to improve in support, as his take-on and tackling technique are far too inconsistent for a player of his stature. But in coverage, as a playmaker and zone eraser, Smith has X-factor upside, and his angle IQ in support suggests he can build up his game there.
CFB Week 9 Update
Arizona was on a bye in Week 9, but they’ll return to face Colorado in Week 10. The Buffaloes’ offense in general has not been consistent thus far in 2025, but Smith will get a chance to put better run support reps on film. His range and processing ability are both inspiring traits, but he has to improve his breakdown timing and engagement technique before he makes the NFL leap.
CFB Week 10 Update
Against a hapless and undisciplined Colorado squad, the entire Arizona defense ate in Week 10 — Genesis Smith included. Smith once again provided sound coverage over the top, managing intermediate zones effectively with his keen hip alignment IQ and smooth fluidity. And late in the game, he recovered a fumble in a heads-up play and nearly took it the distance. There are still occasional lapses in pursuit angles on film, and he’s still not as eager to dictate at contact as you’d want for a 6’2″ safety — but in purely coverage terms, Smith remains one of the most compelling talents in the 2026 NFL Draft class.
Where Is Smith Being Selected Most Often in the PFSN Mock Draft Simulator?

This small gap between rank and ADP suggests he’s consistently valued among evaluators, even amid fluctuations in player evaluations at this stage of the draft cycle.
Users controlling the Buffalo Bills have been the team that selected Smith the most frequently over the past week, accounting for 1.1% of their picks across all seven rounds.
