Wide receiver Garrett Wilson understands how important he is to the New York Jets as one of their best offensive players. He hopes to ink a long-term deal and stay with the franchise for the rest of his career.
Garrett Wilson Voices Hopes of Staying With New York Jets Long Term
While recently speaking with the New York media on May 21, Wilson spoke about his hopes for a long-term deal.
“I’m hopeful I’m a Jet for life,” Wilson said.
According to reporter Connor Hughes, Wilson also noted that his representatives and the Jets have already had conversations about a potential extension. That’s a promising sign for a franchise that’s struggled to maintain consistent offensive talent over the years.
Wilson has emerged as a cornerstone piece in the Jets’ offense. Still only 24 years old, he’s already shown elite production early in his career. The 2022 Offensive Rookie of the Year has recorded over 1,000 receiving yards in each of his first three NFL seasons. In 2024, Wilson posted career-highs in receptions (101), receiving yards (1,104) and touchdowns (7) while catching passes from future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers.
Aaron Rodgers Out, Justin Fields In: Can a Buckeye Duo Save the Jets?
Rodgers’ time in New York was cut short after a series of injuries and inconsistent team results. Looking to reset at quarterback, the Jets signed Justin Fields to a multi-year deal in free agency.
Fields now reunites with Wilson, his former Ohio State teammate. The duo played together in Columbus for two seasons (2019–20), forming a strong connection under head coach Ryan Day. Wilson caught 73 passes for 1,155 yards and 11 touchdowns from Fields during their time together with the Buckeyes.
To add more familiarity to the offensive line, the Jets also brought in center Josh Myers, another Ohio State product who played alongside both Fields and Wilson in college.
Now the question is whether Fields and Wilson can recreate that Buckeye magic in the pros. Fields has a fresh start, and the team is under new leadership with Aaron Glenn stepping in as head coach. It’s a clean slate and an opportunity for the Jets to build around a young, dynamic core.
If Fields finds success in New York, Wilson will almost certainly be a key part of that equation. And if Wilson keeps producing at a high level, locking him in with a new contract before the 2025 season becomes less of a luxury and more of a must.
