New York Jets WR Garrett Wilson showed great potential in his rookie season despite pathetic quarterback play, leading us all to believe that the Ohio State product was competent QB play away from being a super duper star. Garrett Wilson’s Fantasy Outlook for the 2023 NFL Season

Expectations are understandably high for 2022’s Offensive Rookie of the Year after Wilson racked up 1,103 yards in an offense that was so limited that no other Jet topped 552 yards. As you may have heard, the team added Aaron Rodgers to the mix, and the Davante Adams comparisons haven’t stopped since.

With Rodgers came some of his comfort targets from Green Bay (Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb), and Mecole Hardman is also in this reasonably deep receiver room.

While the number of legitimate NFL players who are a part of the WR depth chart is impressive, there is little question as to who the primary (and likely secondary) reads will be for Rodgers when it matters most.

Tyler Conklin and C.J. Uzomah are the TEs in this offense — nice chain movers in case of an emergency, but nothing to really sweat in terms of target competition. Breece Hall and the newly acquired Dalvin Cook make for a nice 1-2 punch at the running back position and give this team the type of balance Rodgers had while with the Packers.

Both are capable pass catchers, and that could mean a target or two less for Wilson, but their ability to keep this offense moving is a net positive as they will be in position to score with regularity.

Is Wilson a Good Fantasy Pick?

I understand his asking price and the potential he carries into the 2023 season, it’s just a little rich for my blood. That’s not to say he can’t live up to his current ADP; I’m just having a tough time seeing him surpassing it. Wilson is being drafted pretty close to his projectable ceiling.

Instead of going Wilson in the middle of Round 2, I’ve been opting for Tony Pollard. Part of that is roster construction (I leave Round 1 with a receiver often), and part of it is the end of a tier for me at the running back position.

By no means am I suggesting that Wilson will struggle in 2023; I just like the idea of passing on the position as a whole in his general ADP slot, hoping that a Tee Higgins or Chris Olave type falls to me. Even if that doesn’t happen, my comfort level with the late Round 3 receivers (Keenan Allen, Amari Cooper, and Calvin Ridley) has me covered for my WR2 position.
