Gabe Davis Breaks Silence on Rumored Reunion With Bills After Getting Released by Jaguars

Free agent wide receiver Gabe Davis weighs in on his rumored return to the Buffalo Bills following his release from the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Gabe Davis thought his Jacksonville chapter would last at least three years. Instead, it ended after one injury-plagued season and a shocking release that has him back where many expected him to land all along: potentially reuniting with the Buffalo Bills.

What Does Gabe Davis’ Release Mean for His NFL Future?

Davis joined the Jacksonville Jaguars in March 2024 on a three-year, $39 million contract that included $24 million in guarantees. The deal looked like a fresh start for the former Bills receiver, but injuries derailed those plans quickly.

He suffered a torn meniscus in his left knee in Week 11, forcing him to miss the final six games of the 2024-25 season. Davis managed just 239 receiving yards and two touchdowns on 20 receptions before the injury ended his campaign early.

The veteran wide receiver appeared set to return to the field for the 2025-26 season, but Jacksonville had other plans. The Jaguars shockingly released Davis on Wednesday, May 7.

How Does Davis Feel About Rejoining Buffalo?

Davis spent the first four seasons of his career with the Buffalo Bills, where he found his footing in the NFL. The fourth-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft recorded 2,730 receiving yards and 27 touchdowns on 163 receptions during his time in Buffalo.

Since his release from Jacksonville, rumors have swirled about a potential return to the franchise that drafted him. Davis recently broke his silence on those reports during an appearance on the “Up And Adams Show.”

While training camp is officially underway for all 32 teams, Davis remains a free agent. He discussed the possibility of rejoining Buffalo, stating:

“Listen, I’m open to whatever I feel like is the best option. If Buffalo is that best option, obviously, I will take it. So, that’s definitely something that I will do. I know the system very well, I know the guys very well, and I feel like I can contribute big there like I have in the past. So, Buffalo definitely could be a team that I end up being on. We’ll see. I don’t know.”

Davis was Buffalo’s second-leading receiver in each of his final two seasons with the organization, trailing only Stefon Diggs, who was an All-Pro and Pro Bowler during that stretch. While Diggs is also no longer in Buffalo, the Bills have filled their receiving room with a mix of young talent and veteran additions.

Young wide receivers Khalil Shakir and Keon Coleman are expected to play prominent roles in Buffalo’s passing game, along with veterans Curtis Samuel, Josh Palmer, and Elijah Moore. However, the front office could still look to bring back Davis on a potential low-risk, high-reward deal.

The free agent wide receiver has plenty of experience and chemistry with 2024 MVP Josh Allen. Plus, despite the names in Buffalo’s wide receiver room, they did not have a single player record 850 yards in the 2024-25 season.
