One of the craziest developments of the NFL season came just before the Sunday slate for Week 5 got underway. Reports emerged about longtime broadcaster Mark Sanchez being taken to the hospital after he was stabbed in Indianapolis, where he was slated to cover the game between the Las Vegas Raiders and the Indianapolis Colts. However, the situation turned extremely complicated the following day.
New details emerged, and it was reported that Sanchez had a major role in the incident, which resulted in his arrest. With the game scheduled at its regular time, the NFL on Fox was in a tough predicament. However, the team soldiered on and offered a statement courtesy of host Curt Menefee.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department clearly stated in its report that Sanchez had been arrested for public intoxication, battery with injury, and unlawful entry of a motor vehicle.
From an outpouring of love for the former New York Jets star, the situation turned into one of confusion. In such a situation, Menefee held strong and delivered a brief statement covering the situation.
“Friday Night in Indianapolis, one of our team members, Mark Sanchez, was involved in an incident that, to be honest, we’re all still trying to wrap our heads around,” Menefee said. “At this time, our thoughts and prayers are with Mark, his family, and all those involved.”

As he segued into the break, it was clear that the full details of the situation would not be revealed on the program. Still recovering from a stab wound to the chest, Sanchez was still at the hospital according to the authorities, and hadn’t been booked yet.
Angela Ganote, a FOX9 reporter from the area, brought in more details about the situation, as it turned out that Sanchez was reportedly not cooperative with the police. Additionally, the full statement from the truck driver who stabbed him became public.
He claimed his attack was a matter of self-defense after Sanchez forced him out of his parking spot, before threatening and following him. Even after he tried to de-escalate the situation using pepper spray, the broadcaster was unperturbed, leading to the driver’s attack.
An initial hearing is slated for Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. ET with a $300 bond. That’s when we should get some more clarity on the situation and the outcome of this incident.
