Quinn Ewers was a three-year starter for the Texas Longhorns. He led the Longhorns to back-to-back appearances in the College Football Playoff semifinals and was considered a pretty solid passer.
The Miami Dolphins eventually took him as the 231st overall pick in the 7th round of the 2025 NFL Draft. He has been succeeded as the starter in Texas by Arch Manning, who happens to be one of the most talked-about college quarterbacks in years.
Manning could not supplant Ewers as the starter when they played together, but he exhibited one talent he holds over Ewers in spades.
What’s the Biggest Difference Between Arch Manning and Quinn Ewers?
Texas receiver DeAndre Moore spoke to the press on Thursday and was asked what the difference was between Quinn Ewers and Arch Manning.
“One had baby wheels and one has super wheels,” said Moore, referring to their ability to run. A reporter asked, “Which one’s which?”
Moore responded, “Oh, you know,” suggesting that Manning is the more fleet-footed of the two quarterbacks.

Ewers finished his college career (including one year at Ohio State) with 737 completions on 1,135 attempts for 9,128 yards, 68 touchdowns, and a 64.9% pass completion. However, he was less than great when he took to the ground, but that didn’t mean he was a total loss. He ran for eight touchdowns over his career with Texas. Impressive? Maybe, but this was completely backed!
Manning ran the ball 25 times for 108 yards in limited action, backing up Ewers and playing in spot situations. He also ripped off an electric run for a touchdown on his first snap after replacing an injured Ewers against UTSA.
It seems like an open and shut case, but remember that Ewers showed out well at Texas, doing what a quarterback is primarily responsible for: Throwing the ball.
As mentioned before, he was good enough to hold off Manning as the starter. But he was also a semifinalist for the Walter Camp Player of the Year, Maxwell Award, and Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award in 2024. He also finished in the top 10 Davey O’Brien QB Class and was Second-team All-SEC in 2023 and 2024.
So, while Ewers may not be Hermes when it comes to running, he’s proven he can hold his own on a football field when it comes to throwing the ball.
